Hunter's Call wishlist

  • Just a few ideas for expanding the Hunter's Call into a more engaging Trading Company. More fantasies than things I think definitely should be implemented, but I like variety and it should be more fun getting your Hunter's Call rank up.

First and foremost: Get a new representative on Stephen's Spoils! Merrick may be gone but what, they can't hire a temp? XD

Second: Adding voyages unique to the Hunter's Call. At low ranks these would typically be 'go catch a set number of a specific type of fish' or 'kill and cook a set number of pigs/chickens' but as you rank up, some new voyages would appear. Ones that would add more creatures to the game!
    Voyage ideas:

    • Hunt Alligators; on islands with shallows or bays like Shark Bait Cove, Mermaid's Hideaway, Kraken's Fall, Smuggler's Bay, etc. - Alligators can spawn (when you have the specific voyage for them) and need to be culled, bringing back their meat as proof.
    • Collect Crab Traps; Hunter's Call members have laid crab and lobster pots throughout the sea of thieves, you're tasked with collecting them. You get a map of a whole section of the sea of thieves - the wilds, the ancient isles, etc. - marked with where the pots are between the islands, you sail to where they are and harpoon the buoys to your ship, sometimes pulling up an Ocean Crawler too! The crabs and/or lobster pots are then treated like an animal crate to be handed in.
    • Rare Fish Voyage; the representative gives you a special type of bait and you are told to fish with it at a specific island. When you do so, a unique rare fish is attracted, and a difficult catch must be completed. Barracuda, Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna - they needn't have these exact names since the fish in sea of thieves aren't specific fish, but could be modeled after them.
    • Coral Cruise; basically, functions similarly to a Coral Message in a Bottle. It's interesting that other than fish & meat the Call also happily accepts mermaid & siren gems as well as breath of the sea. So why not add these to their voyage list, with maybe a Hunter's Call variant that spawns more gems than other kinds of loot, as well as guaranteeing a breath of the sea.

Third: Emissary flag! If they got voyages they should get this too, with the Grade V reward being really unique. I was thinking a special kind of item - a shell horn with a single use and a gem on the side. While in open water, the gem will glow if the conditions are right for a Kraken or Megalodon to spawn, at which point you can blow it and summon one!

These are just ideas I came up with for fun but I'd love the idea of these being implemented. Any thoughts for additions or changes to this?

Two things Id like to add:

    1. Emmisary should become available only afetr lvl 50, with respect to those who grinded it to that level without one. OR give some exclusive rewards to players with lvl 50 before the emmisary was added (like arena staff.)
    2. Put a representative on the Stephen's Spoils already, I wanna sell my fish!
  • @guyrza
I think locking Emissary behind the grind to 50 disincentivizes newer players, or players new to grinding the Hunter's Call, to try it out.
But I do agree that players who grinded it out the old fashioned way with just fish and gems should get a little extra; maybe a reward that could still be earnable, an achievement for reaching 50 without ever raising the Hunter's Call emissary flag.

They didn't do anything when the Athena Run, filled with gems, was added so I doubt they'd restrict any new expansions to Hunter's Call either.

  • @d3adst1ck I doubt they will, but I hope they do that. Cuz that would be super unfair towards older hunters.

  • I like all of thes but the crab pots. I REFUSE to consign Shelly to be made into crab cakes.

  • I would love to see all of this get added to the game. Hunter's Call definitely needs an update. Crab fishing and additional critters would be great. I would love to see squids, manta rays, eels, turtles, dolphins, crabs, saltwater crocs, etc.

Hahaha We'll make one exception for Shelly.

  • @jester1027 Omg yes, squids, turtles!

  • You're missing an obvious voyage.

    Hunt for megalogon/krakens.

The voyage will begin with a sighting or rumour that the target was spotted near X island.

Fou then need to follow the trail finding broken barrels, shipwrecks and other such destruction left in it's wake.

Finally you'll fight the boss by locating its most recent location and luring it out with a specific type of meat/bait (you find out what it wants during the voyage). Perhaps the wrecked ship was carrying a shipment of chickens. Perhaps it wants a Live golden pig, etc.

    This reeks of entitlement.

  • I don't recall a special bonus when the Emissary System dropped to begin with. So I see no reason for something special if one comes for Hunters Call.

I do think Voyages of a sort could be a thing, but I would make them a little more general.

Provision Requisition - Low Tier Voyage: Gather 10-20 Uncooked Meat of different variety, plus 10-20 Cooked Meat of different variety. On occasion toss in the requirement of a Trophy Fish either cooked or uncooked as well on the list. This can scale based on Ship/Crew size, but the goal is to ensure the order is enough that it can't all be held in Inventory to protect it, leaving it open for theft or loss. Note: the new Captaincy Supplies system sort of screws all of this up and could make it a cheese fest, which is why I feel like that system should be nerfed down to just fruits on the Food side, and Bait should be available to anyone at a Sea Post like other basic supplies are to non-Captains for a better balance.

Fishing Competition - Alternative Low Tier Voyage: This would send you to a specific area (using the old Fishing Event Maps we had for a bit). The trick would be that you are required to go and try to get as many Trophy fish as possible within a certain timeframe. There would be different "placings" (read Value) that you could obtain based on your luck and skill mix. You'd have a stealable Log Book that you would need to turn in that recorded your catches in the Competition so it can be stolen (as could your Fish if you can't hold them all).

Monster Hunting - High Tier Voyage: This would send you out to hunt a Megalodon of some type (excluding the Shrouded Ghost which remains emergent), making you track it for a ways by searching wreckage found floating in various locations that have messages in them to guide you on (sort of like a Lost Shipment). As with other high tier Voyages, there would be a chance this would be a Kraken hunt instead (but that could be a surprise at the end of the Voyage, like the Burning Blade on Ghost Fleets). These would be a bit tougher than the standard Encounters, in that they are just slightly more tanky than normal, with a small ramp up on their aggressive state based on Ship and Crew Size like normal (see before they were nerfed). They would drop more Loot (a little) and more Meat (a little) than normal as well.

I would also like to see the Value of the items sold be buffed a little bit from where we are right now across the board to make it somewhat lucrative to invest the effort into all of this. Right now it is almost not worth it at all, and I would prefer it be an actual consideration.

If you do add Voyages you could absolutely add in Emissary for them at that point. The Emissary Quest could be an epic Monster Hunt where you hunt a couple Megs and a Kraken in succession. This would help with the Value factor above since you could make the Value really come from the Multiplier.

That would be an acceptable and unique Faction setup for the Hunters, and let them be advanced both actively and passively based on player preference.

  • @redeyesith I love the sound of those! I've been thinking for a long time now that they need a voyage for hunting krakens and megalodons.

  • @blam320 how come? I went on a grind to get to lvl 50, if someone else can do that 5 times quicker due to emmisary I would feel wronged, since I get 0 credit for me grinding it out without the emi. Where is the entitlement?

  • @guyrza

The fact you don't recognize your own entitlement is disturbing.

You insist that because you made it to rank 50 the "hard way," either everyone else should be forced to do it the same way as you, or you somehow deserve a consolation prize if it's made easier. That's some of the most entitled behavior I've seen. You feel that it's a personal attack against yourself and your accomplishment if the road is smoothed out for more people to follow in a shorter timespan.

The developers have been making the grind to pirate legend easier since day one. Better loot payout from voyages and events across the board, the original iteration of the Emissary system, new voyages which are easier and more straightforward to complete, the addition of new Trading Companies, including Reaper's Bones which is the easiest to grind to get to Pirate Legend, the list goes on. Should I feel entitled to a consolation prize because I achieved rank 50 in the original three trading companies instead of taking the easy way with the Reapers?

  • @blam320 those very same developers gave out exclusive rewards to pirate legends, who got there before 2019. And they keep being rewarded with exclusive rewards every season, which do not seem to be obtainable for others anymore. Those very same developers have given out arena ship sets based on the players levels before its closure. I dont feel this a personal attack, but an attack against all the hunetrs who got to lvl 50 without any emmisary, and I feel this is justified. If u were to work on something really hard and get a certain acheivement, and then someone would do it with 5 times less effort with the help of smth u didnt have at the time, u would feel the same way

That's too bad, because I don't feel that same way. I'm glad new players have more tools at their disposal to make it to Pirate Legend quickly if they choose to play that route. I would be happy to give players new ways to get the original Bone Crusher cosmetics, for example, because I'll always have the story of "I got this when it first released." The cosmetics will always have that story and "wow" factor behind them.

  • @blam320 dont get me wrong, Id love for all cosmetics to be available for everyone. But this just isnt the case and never will be. And as long as this is so, I am pro exclusive rewards given to players for their efforts. Those are two opinions, both valid to exist, but dont call me entitled cuz I disagree with you.

I'm calling you entitled because you think we shouldn't have a feature because you, personally have done without, and because you, personally feel that including this feature would somehow invalidate something you did, without also giving you something in return as consolation.

  • @blam320 I was referring to everyone who did it the normal way (excluding the alliance server users, but thats another topic.)

  • Ahoy @blam320 and @Guyrza !

Here is you kind reminder to remain civil and avoid personal arguments. It is fine to debate the content of the post, and the viewpoints therein, but derailing the topic of the thread and disrespecting your fellow pirates personally is not tolerated.

    Cheers!
