Grogs with passive benefits.

  • So in my time sailing I've noticed the tavern keepers mentioning different brews of grog, but we can not partake in these flavors. I like Capn Lucky5984's idea for having custom grog barrels and the contents of your tankard visually reflecting your choice.

But what if we took this a step further. What if all these different flavors of grog could have an in game benefit beside just getting us drunk.

What if "Tess's Dawn Amber" enhanced the healing effect of eating bananas. She says it's fruity and has hints of banana. Maybe taking a few swigs of "Deep Sea Tentacle Tickler" could add a couple seconds to how long you can stay underwater. Tallulah's "Pina Colava" could make you burp out fire instead of vomit. Hmm, not sure what Tanya's 'Chapman's Old Bilge Sniffer" could do, but you get the idea.

Each tavern could have a unique home brew that we could pay to either fill our tankard or replace the default grog on our ship. The passive benefits would be short lasting thus encouraging a pirate to always keep a tankard full of the brew of their choice on hand.

So what what do you think?

  • enhanced the healing effect of eating bananas.

    With that. Nope.

But I wouldn’t mind different grogs that changed what you see when drunk. Make it silly or even how you move.

Banana would make you slip and fall more often (be a new animation)

Maybe hot grog that gives the feel of being on fire (mouth opens and burps flames)

You may not realize it but many countries have laws that forbid games from portraying drugs or alcohol as being beneficial, such as giving benefits like you propose, because it may encourage use. So not going to happen because of that along with other considerations.

  • @dlchief58 I did not know that. Well maybe we could still have them provide an effect that's different from drinking normal grog. Like the before mentioned burping fire, perhaps variations in visual impairments, different vomit colors, things along those lines.
