What they really should do is fix the emergent encounter spawn rate. It’s been lower since the Shrouded Deep concluded. I used to get 1-2 megs and 1-2 Skelly ships spawn on me every session and now I’m lucky to get anyone of them at all. Nothings changed between my sailing from before and now. Still doing veils, still sailing on the open water a lot.
It’s hard to encounter the SG if I can’t even get megs to spawn in the first place.
so some things i've figured out in my attempts to reliably find megs to kill, if it helps:
NOTE: This is just my personal findings, after trial and error and hours and hours of farming megs
- it seems to take an hour after you log in before your first meg spawn is possible. I've never had a meg spawn on me in the first hour
- After you kill one, it seems to take another hour before you get another one
- Loot on board does NOT matter, i've had them spawn with loot on board and with 0 loot on board, it doesnt make a difference
- you have to be in open water. This means no seaposts, outposts, random rocks, shipwrecks, etc. i'm still learning the distance minimum to be away from these
My strategy, when i want to farm megs, is to play for an hour doing whatever. Usually for me it's shipwreck diving or fishing. Then, after an hour has passed, i sail to the edge of the map for a nice open place (south Ancient Isles works nice), and cook my fish while i wait.
Sometimes, the game spawns me a meg immediately. Othertimes, i have to wait a half an hour or more. And other times...i never get one, give up, go sell my fish and log off. Since it's RNG on if it spawns or not, this is not a gauranteed way to get one, but it does increases your chances
i play in 1 or 2 hour sessions, a few times a day, and before the update could get 1 and maybe 2, and after the update have been getting 3 consistently in a day
