I recently got Starlink and now instead of Aus I connect to what appears to be Singapore servers with 200 ping.
Starlink Seems unable to Use Aus servers
@clumsy-george said in Starlink Seems unable to Use Aus servers:
Uhm... did you mixed up Forums ?
Is this not Sea of Thieves Technical forums?
Honest question, are there even AUS servers?
I always sympathize with AUS / New Zealand players because it seems like no games ever have dedicated servers for that region. So even if you have a faster / more stable connection, your ping may always be higher, just with hopefully less jitter or packet loss.
I would think that Starlink should theoretically lower your latency, but I don't think by much. You could play around with a VPN to see if that helps, but I've had issues before with using comms while on VPN.
If SoT does have dedicated AUS servers, then no idea why starlink would be connecting elsewhere, but wishing you luck. Starlink seems like a good option for a lot of things, but I really don't know if it will help much if SoT doesn't have dedicated AUS servers.
@calicorsaircat Aus has alot of Servers for games these days. I would rather not have to use a VPN to play on my Local servers. It is simply the Region blocking they use must have Starlink Wrongly Configured.
@delenca Another SoT forum post from 4 years ago was saying that the game uses Microsoft Azure, which have worldwide servers, but some AUS were saying at the time they were still experiencing high ping.
I guess try a support ticket; that was the advice then. Good luck!
@calicorsaircat That is what Forums are for a way to contact people who work on the game to try and get a real solution.....
@delenca I don't really know why you are interpreting that I am telling you that this is not the right place for your concern. Your post is fine, and the forums are a great place to ask for help, and I wish you the best of luck getting that help. But I am not qualified to help you with your Starlink issues, and I doubt much anyone else here will be able to either.
I'm just advising you to also submit an actual support ticket:
https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/newThe devs do read the forums, but I would say the forums are more to get help from other players. Submitting a support ticket is probably your best bet to try and get a response, but I'm not sure how successful you will be.
If it is an issue Rare can fix, they might look into this. You seem to think it is some kind of region blocking and misconfiguration. I gave you some info that I didn't know before which is that it looks like SoT uses Microsoft Azure. That might be another good place to ask for help / recommendations.
