Prestige System

  • I am going to say first that this was not my idea but think it would be fantastic to keep people interested and grinding all the current content in-game. Twitch Streamer and Sea of Thieves Partner Tazedandconfused has talked about this for years.

A prestige system for your pirate would be amazing. This would allow players who are maxed out to reset, yet keep their current cosmetics and work toward another goal. It is satisfying to do quests, get loot, and sell it for rep and gold. But once maxed out short of new content added from time to time the grind is less meaningful than it was in the beginning. You could give old seasoned pirates that new pirate excitement again by allowing them to prestige. They could be awarded special cosmetics and titles each time they prestige giving players another way to flex on their fellow pirates. It would not require new content as the reset would have pirates grinding those trader voyages as they did back at day one.

Many players have resorted to creating new accounts just to get that new pirate experience again, but that forces them to miss out on time-limited event cosmetics on their OG pirate as they have moved on. Also trying to get certain cosmetics on newer pirates can be difficult (thrones) as no one does those events anymore. The prestige system would allow a player to keep one pirate, show off all their cosmetics they have earned over the years, and work toward anything new released. This would be a game-changer that would keep the player base solid for years to come.

  • a prestige system has been discussed on these forums before and most people on here are against it but dont have solid arguments as to why they are against it. the best argument against it i've seen is that it shouldn't be in the game because something better should be in its place instead of it, which isn't really an argument against is per se

  • @p5yanide prestiging is a terrible idea. There is already plenty to work on after capping level.
    Complete all xbox achievements.
    Complete a commendations.

Come back when done with that list, we can forgive not killing the Ghost as its fake.

  • The prestige is precisely in the cosmetics, resetting the character, even if keeping the cosmetics would be useless.

Ok I have done all that, can I get a prestige system now?

No you get to join the rest of us and finally get the to play the game. You can put the compulsion down and just do what ever you want.

On a serious note, how many of us are there do you think?

  • When you attain PL you have these options:

    • Do the achievements (which now unfairly gate you from 100%)
    • Do the commendations (of which 90% are tedious grinds, 8% are completely trivial, 1% are fun and 1% are borderline impossible)
    • climb the emissary ledger (and realise you can never compete with those who have 24 hours a day to play the game)
    • Or just play (which gets a bit stale if you have no goals)

So here's my idea for a 'prestige' system.

Every season, people at level 75 can unlock a special prestige thingy. It has a cost of 1,000,000 gold to begin it.

You can now level to level 100. And each level will reward you with stuff. Like special voyages or cosmetics and AC.

For example, every 5 levels you get a special quest. For example, a map leading to entirely cursed chests, or a vault filled with nothing but mermaid gems or a shipwreck with 5 Reaper chests

Then upon purchasing this levelling thing you get a special cosmetic (randomised from all the possible ones) This is a special one. It begins as plain (like a default one) but every level it changes colour based on your company.

    • GH: item slowly becomes shiny gold
    • OS: item slowly turns purple
    • MA: item slowly turns blue
    • AF: item slowly turns glowy green
    • RB: Item slowly turns glowy red

Upon reaching level 100, the item will have fully changed colour.

Also purchasing the extra levels carries other benefits:

    • Doubloons and AC every few levels

    • Gold gains are doubled for your crew (to encourage playing with others perhaps)

Then at level 100, you will receive a final voyage, that leads you all over the place doing events to get a big pile of faction loot. Along with a title to say you reached it and maybe some new sails.

The idea here is that every season you have something to level to. You unlock a specially coloured cosmetic and some more exciting voyages than "20 captains chests"

This whole thing is clearly in need of some balancing, etc. But I think an expensive (ish) thing for high level players to limirt-break reputation could be decent.

  • I don’t understand people making new pirates to have a new experience.

I have yet to see any pirate 100% the achievement list or commendations. And if you havnt done that yet, you still got things left to do. Why bother resetting?

  • @burnbacon wait, you’ve not seen any Pirate 100% the achievements or commendations? I can introduce you to some if you like.

For plenty of people it's the shrouded ghost thing which just isn't fun to deal with, but with prestige it'd allow people who are hunting for it on their main account to still have the joy of seeing their reputation go up get the commendation for the ghost when it appears instead of having to deal with it being on an alt account with nothing to show on their main account, which I could understand having all your special things on one account

  • I like the idea, I suggested it a while ago but both times then and here have got a terrible response.
I don't think people get the idea that:

    1. It's optional
    2. It's for nothing more than seeing your rep go up (which personally I miss seeing. Turning in loot seems absolutely pointless cause I have gold, I'm max level, but hey I need to do it for the emissary ledgers which doesn't show my progress until I check the page. No where near as satisfying as seeing that little circle fill up and go boom when it hits a new level.
  • I see no need for a prestige system when all Rare has to do is either add more commendations, or increase the level cap to 100

  • This feels like an appropriate time to drop these again

That's because 90% of them are uninventive and tedious grinds and the last 10% are borderline impossible.

  • Don't mind the idea, the only abuse I can quickly think of is grinding out each faction 250 voyages completed with the lower quality but shorter and easier versions of the voyages. It's what I'd do for definite
