[Suggestion] Use "new" GamerTag system for display player's name

  • Microsoft made a second system for gamertags where a player can have the same name than another player but after their name, there is a "#xxxx" where "xxxx" are random numbers.
I changed my gamertag thinking that Sea of Thieves support that system, but no. So now, I have ugly numbers after my name (BlackJames8121).

I see lot of people with that type of gamertag and it can be very cool if our real pseudo is displayed.

  • The New Gamertag system does in fact work, just check out several names here on the forums for that!

The trick to not getting numbers in your name I find is having a fairly long name, maybe with a space in there to help lengthen it.

"Stargaze" in my name was my last ditch effort to get rid of Xbox's annoying numbers on my gamertag. It worked, and now this last name is a solid part of my identity (because websites and forums really don't like stupidly short names)

  • My GT is an OG GT so that means no #s behind mine. 😁

  • @blackjames8121 numbers? I dont see any. I think the issue would be for reporting. When you see a gt in game you know who the bad actors are correctly

  • @blackjames8121 you could make your name Cap'n Black James, and it would remove the numbers while still stay true to your Original gamertag

  • Keeping my tag. Seems it is quite popular.

  • I found "solution" to get around the problem, I'll use an "i" uppercase for write "L" lowercase.

So, thank you for answers !

  • I'm gonna agree on this one; I somehow got screwed over by creating a second account while I was making my current account. No clue what the password or email would be and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get the account removed so I can get my username without the ugly tag. Apart from knowing the origin of my username, I guess I'm stuck with a tag while having a completely unique username...

  • I always assumed people who have numbers were doing it on purpose or they were silly.
