A Pirate's Insurance Policy for Me!

  • This is a PvEvP game. I would not want it to be any different. Without PvP the game would become deadly dull. And with only PvP the game would have no reward (and become dull).

However, those who engage in PvE more than PvP are the prey to the predator. The predator (usually not having any treasure on board) has little to lose, regardless of the outcome of the engagement. Their prey, on the other hand, has more to lose than the opposition.

What if there were a way to soften the loss of a pirate’s treasure, reputation, and emissary grade after having done several PvE encounters?

Suppose, when you are at an outpost, you could “buy” insurance from an NPC for (1) the treasure you gather, (2) the reputation you would have earned and (3) the emissary grade you had at the time of your ship's demise? This would be optional to purchase and you wouldn’t have to buy all three. Though it shouldn’t be cheap to purchase.

And to collect the insurance you would have to take the “policy” to an outpost after you lost your treasure and/or flag or ship. You could not acquire any new treasure on your way back to the outpost as that would make the policy null and void. Perhaps a timer would start (like a merchant crate timer) and you'd have to report the theft to your insurance agent before it ran out. I don't know!

And what’s more pirate than an insurance salesman and insurance scams?

    Anyway, just a suggestion.

  • That is a very capitalistic idea to say the least, and as far as pirates were from socialism, even them will cringe at the insurance salesman tactics.

Hence why Stan S. Stanman ended up inside a coffin in the first place.

  • @metal-ravage Lol! Stan would be the perfect NPC for this!

  • The season is your pirate policy. You earn gold and doubloons by just playing the game.
Seasons, Renown. You Play the game and still earn gold.
Loot, treasures, everything you pick up can be turned into for gold. If you lose it, by then you should of at least earned good count of gold either way.

soften the loss of a pirate’s treasure, reputation, and emissary grade after having done several PvE encounters?

So you want a Safety net. Because I find that less of a pirate thing. And a cheesy way to still earn something for "losing"

report the theft to your insurance agent

    xD okie....

  • @burnbacon I disagree. The season is not a pirate policy. You just said "you earn gold and doubloons by just playing the game." That is not a policy. I've earned it in the moment.

But that is different from the amount of gold or dubs one might have on their ship from PvE encounters.

  • @twinalphathree Pirate Insurance? This title made me laugh. I have to give it to you I do not think I have ever seen anyone come up with this after all my time on this forum. I do like seeing new ideas. As far as whether I think it should be part of the game well I really have no clue lol.

  • I'd find it funny if a Grand Maritime Union npc somehow managed to get in the SoT, and was providing this "service" to anyone desperate enough to take the offer. +1 vote for the heck of it!

  • @burnbacon that has nothing to do with OP is talking about. The season is an insurance policy. Give constructive criticism or stop just trying to boost your post #'s. A ton of your replies to people are just toileting their ideas man.

  • All of us derive pleasure from a win and from stealing treasure from another ship. Yet such a mechanic might keep some from being discouraged so that they toss the game aside.

But most, I'd like to think, would not begrudge a player if they used this mechanic and recouped some of the loss.

I know several gamers who said they'll never play the game again because of this. And we can take the easy callous attitude towards them and say all the usual quips that have been said before. But that only polarizes and perpetuates an us vs them mentality.

Would you feel as though your win was tarnished if you thought of your opponent as being recompensed, in any way, if they paid for the investment?

Bottom line: I'm just suggesting a mechanic. That's what this forum is about. I did it on hopes that it might keep some players coming back who may otherwise abandon the game.

    Cheers!

  • My apologizes, one more thing I’m afraid I didn’t make clear from my original post: I believe this would incentivize players who are more prone to PvE to wade out into the waters of PvP (so to speak).

If the PvE ship knew they were insured to get a percentage back (50% e.g.) if they lost it all, then they may be more inclined to challenge the PvPers. Thus helping them get better at PvP and the PvP crowd gets to engage in more of what they like.
