On the deck where you customize your ship you should be able to expand it on shrink it. Ex) if you are in a sloop you can make it a brig and keep all your loot and emissary

There are a whole host of logistical issues that need to be resolved 1st before something like this can happen, mostly regarding server population and stability.
The way to make that work imo is if they ever make portal hopping some sort of official thing then they could have it happen there. People can go bigger or smaller
That's the least interference and cheesey way to do it.
They get put on a server that fits them and they get to keep their supplies/flag and it doesn't interfere with anything else and doesn't become as much of a cheese fest

Yeah, that would be the captain's personal privvy - accessible only through a trapdoor hidden under the carpet in the captain's cabin (not meant for crew). 😅
