I've read posts of the Arena in the forums, but I haven't been able to find anything that tells me anything about the Arena.
I've read all kinds of things ranging from "Arena's dead" to "Arena has so many Issues" and I'm curious about it.
I've never tried the Arena because I don't know the rules, and I will not go into the Arena If I don't know what I'm doing. The last thing a crew needs is me floundering around like a "Splashtail" and being nothing but a hindrance. I do not know anything about it other than It's a smaller, condensed version of adventure mode and they battle for gold and points, but that's basically it. Would somebody be so kind as to explain it in detail?
Will Someone explain to me in detail what the Arena is?

I mean, battling for points pretty much sums it up lol.
Arena is a team-based PvP mode in which you and up to 4 other crews are competing to earn the most points in 15 minutes.
You can earn points by digging/turning in the Sea Dog Chest, by killing players, and by landing cannon hits. How you go about acquiring those points is up to you and your crew.
It might be a good idea to check out the SoT official discord's Arena LFC channel. Get a feel for how different crews operate & use the strats that you find most effective.
@theblackbellamy
Wow. 15 min to do all that...I'm wondering if it's really worth it.
Thank you Black Bellamy! You were kind enough to take the time to answer my Question.
Cheers!@theblackbellamy
Wow. 15 min to do all that...The time limit is 15 minutes, but you don't have to do all that. Kills, chests, cannon hits are all just potential methods of acquiring points, but not all are necessary.
Players have differing opinions on what the best strategies are. This is why it would be a good idea to get a feel for how different crews operate, just to see what works and doesn't work for you.
I'm wondering if it's really worth it.
People find value in Arena for a number of reasons.
Even if one isn't interested in Triumphant or Legendary Sea Dog titles/cosmetics, one can still use the mode as a place to practice PvP.
I play because I enjoy naval combat, and Arena provides the quickest access to that.
I would say it's definitely worth at least trying. Go in open-minded. If it turns out you're not a fan, you've only lost 15 minutes (plus the lobby wait time) lol. But if you enjoy it, you can use it as a tool to improve your PvP skills.
@gipperseadog 15 minutes in Arena can be quite a long time, and digging up a chest and turning it in (flawlessly) should take about 2-3 minutes from starting the round.
There are several different ways to go about playing arena, but here's a few common ones:
-
Normal Play: A fine mix of PvE and PvP, digging up/stealing the chest, and attempting to turn it in while fighting and getting as many points as you can striking other boats with your cannons.
-
PvE Play: Digging up the chest as soon as possible and focus more on turning in than fighting other boats for a long period of time. This playstyle is very effective for wins, if not usually frowned upon.
-
PvP Play: The chest doesn't matter, your 400 cannonballs do! Striking other boats as much as you can for the 15 minutes is the game, and you can even haul the chest with you to gather more attention from the other contestants and keep your score flowing to the lead, should you not sink.
-
TDM: You might find players utilizing their pet's names or Xbox DMs in the tavern lobby attempting to rally together as many people as possible to start a Team Deathmatch. What this usually entails is that you sail to a nearby fort or large island, park your boat with the other boats (with your boat's broadside to the island), and shoot off onto the island in an attempt to defeat other players on land. The main rules (I know right, imagine rules in arena) are utilizing the Flintlock Pistol and the Eye of Reach as your (usually) required weapon loadout, and to not attack other boats participating in the land fight on the island. Breaking these "rules" can lead to an unsavory scenario that might cause you to quit arena, but ultimately your choices are to participate, leave the lobby via leave game should you not want to participate, or stay in the lobby, and proceed to PvE play, assuming no other boats are attempting to fight you.
Arena can also be a broken mess at times where some functions within in may not work correctly. Hit Registration being the obvious main one so we'll move on. Sometimes lobbies won't start (especially in Galleon Arena) due to a undercrewed open crew trying to participate and not taking the hint. Sometimes lobby merges can take place that may put you directly in the match, placing your crew on an unloaded island in the Devil's Shroud, unable to participate. Last but not least, the different types of players you can encounter, mainly spawn campers, preventing you from playing the match until you go to My Crew and Scuttle Ship, or well, kill the boarders. Other than that, how you want to play Arena or win Arena is up to your preferred playstyle. Hoping you'll do your best out there!

@nex-stargaze
Thank you for all the info! now I am more prepared when I get that "Itch" for a different gameplay!
Cheers!I'm 100% against your train of thougtht.
When you play a game you don't learn the basics on the wiki, Sea of Thieves tells you little about things just so that you'd learn by yourself and grow in this world where you don't know your limits, in this world where your immersion and imagination can only take part in because you don't know what you can and can't do.
Don't learn how to do it before doing it, just do the damn thing XD@nex-stargaze a dit dans Will Someone explain to me in detail what the Arena is? :

You also have the choice to hit the boats parked on the island. That will lead to tdmers attempting to spawncamp you, which is probably the most effective way to learn how to prevent or repeal boarders. When they manage to lock the spawncamp, just scuttle and come back. But don't do this if you aren't ready to be spawncamped into oblivion tho, it should only be done if you want to train that aspect of combat.
