While fighting phantoms, I have noticed that they will occasionally do an animation where they will slide their thumb across their throat in a threatening manner. Why don't we pirates have this animation as an emote already?

Personally I find it distasteful for an adult to do it to a kid and it might get a kid in trouble these days if they start picking it up as a habit.
I suppose I find it more unnecessary than anything
In an adult environment I never really care. Teenagers being teenagers I don't really care but when everyone shares the environment with little kids I think it should be a priority to not bring in that sort of stuff which has more cons than pros imo

last time i played i set a person on fire and then shot them in the face....
it's not a graphic game. There is a difference between gameplay and taunting/escalating situations/being intentionally disrespectful
literally all this brings to the game is something to stand over someone and use after killing them. Is it necessary considering a lot of people can't even handle bucket and other mild taunting? I don't see it as a useful addition to emotes
anyone with knowledge of the environment and that is being honest knows that is what it will largely be used for

Maybe, but due to their very nature, that's rather subjective - there are a lot of emotes that I or others might deem as not useful that you would. I just think that since it's already there, we might as well use it. It is a very pirate thing to do - well, the ruthless kid anyways.

admittedly I don't find it necessary or appropriate in a game like this but when a phantom does it it's not people using it on each other to amplify aggressiveness which just leads to drama and/or excessive taunting with threatening gestures in a shared environment that isn't all just pvp adults. It's all sorts of people including kids
people go at each other enough these days in and out of games.
The only one that can pull off a classy cutthroat gesture is The Undertaker. Leave it to the professionals imo

I mean, I'd be fine with this being added personally. Context is what makes something more aggressive, so we already have emotes that can egg people on. Thud Dancing in a killed player, bucketing a killed player, doing a Jig on a killed player, striking a weapon pose on a killed player - I don't see how this would honestly be all that much different. I could easily see people doing it for fun among their own crew and such and just being silly with it, as well as people using it to taunt a bit in an encounter (just like they do with all the other options available).
The emote is also seen in other games that also have kids playing them. So that argument is hard to hold water for me as well.

A common scene in many modern war movies. A "moon emote" would be hilarious.
I haven't noticed any phantoms taunting me, but I'm going to need a closer look.
It would be interesting to see if the Emote Department greenlights a throat slash.
