What's reason for the low capped FOV?

  • For a modern PC, or even console FPS these days it's very weird and uncomfortable for some people to play in this low of a FOV. And i'm sure this have been requested for quite some time now, for Rare to increase the cap. People are even doing, let us say, "custom" fixes to increase the FOV. But I'm curious, have Rare ever made a statement about the FOV? Why it's capped so low? And I'm guessing they are against people trying to reduce their nausea for playing in low FOV, which is a case for many.

  • Main reason why Rare probably has capped it at 90 is that old xbox consoles (xbox one/one x) can barely handle the game at 30fps and increased fov uses more resources resulting in even worse performance. Sure modern PC's and Xbox'es could handle higher FOV's but as there is shortage with gpu's and xbox'es finding one would be difficult so many people will have to stick around with xbox one's or old PC's even if they didn't want to.

    Reason rare didn't allow Steam players to customize their FoV's was that it broke Xbox'es TOS and probably some other reasons, not to mention it gave Small advantage to Steam players that you couldn't get on on other platforms.

  • @mathemoto They said the decision was made to provide a more stable playing experience.
    Also somewhat related to this: when developing the game they chose a first person approach over third person, as they wanted the player to feel more immersed in the action, and felt that the third person camera view being so far out left the player feeling slightly removed from the action.
