Secondary fire for Ashen Skull

    The common consensus is that the Ashen Skull is kind of a bust. It's a cool idea, and props to Rare for adding another emergent weapon, but it's nowhere near the game changer wraith balls were.

    Rare should consider salvaging it with a buff: a secondary fire that acts like a napalm gunpowder keg. I'm thinking a 5 second countdown and then it blows up, doing minor damage (2 holes to hulls), and covering the surrounding area in flame.

    This makes it a better boarding tool: you can PVP with the other crew using the flamethrower, then also use it as a kind of mini-keg to try and sink the ship.

    What other ideas do people have to make it a better tool?

    Ashen skull is unlikely to ever become anything significant or popular weapon wise

    a stronghold keg is a big risk and a big game changer. It's worth gold loss to get rid of it or use it

    at 10k+ an ashen skull would have to do some sort of ridiculous damage to ever bring a lot of people into using it. And ashen skulls have little risk which makes it even harder to turn the tide on them

    that bad boy is like 75k with a grade 5 on double gold weekend during gold rush. I'll never use that thing

    @prescafatty its more of a pve tool than a pvp tool. it's great at the fof for clearing waves of skellies.

    You want to turn a flamethrower into a keg? Why wouldn't you just bring kegs to your boat? They provide more holes and are MUCH easier to get. It's a good idea in theory, but there's would be no reason to add it because you'd just be turning it into something that already exists.

    Yeah, I bring kegs to my boat all the time. I don't necessarily need the Ashen Skull to be a keg, I'm just brainstorming ways to make it more useful. I love emergent weapons, but as one of only two boss-fight weapons in the game, it's pretty underwhelming.

    Instead of acting as a napalm keg, maybe it's secondary fire is like an Ashen Lord's shockwave attack. Basically a blunderbomb on steroids. You trigger it, plant it top deck, 5 sec countdown, and then its detonation blasts all top deck pirates off the ship.

    Rarely, but yes, on occasion - when the need arises. Its effects are devastating.

    Who doesn’t? I love sneaking up on random players with a full crew who each have one and. FLAME!!!! away. It very interesting and fun weapon.

    It’s harnessing the AOE attack of an Ashen Lord. Brilliant and seemingly quite doable addition.

    RT fires the flames. LT hands it to an ally. How would you detonate it? What input(s) would you use?

    If you want to promote people to use it, don't have it drain how much it is worth for doing so... most people don't want to use it as it loses value.

    I personally have used it multiple times, even in PvP... it is a hilarious and actually pretty decent weapon as it is.

    Switch LT to secondary fire. It'd be far more useful than "hand to an ally."

    But that bucks the pattern or current trend. It wouldn’t make sense for everything to have a give away feature with this 1 item being the sole exception.

    @galactic-geek Weapons have a secondary fire that lets you aim. I think you could argue the Ashen Skull is a weapon, and thus still fits within the system.
