120 field of view needs to be added. I'm surprised it isn't to be honest. For many people including myself 90 fov just feels claustrophobic. There already is a way to do it on steam version, but it should really just be part of the game.
120 fov

It's bannable to edit game files!

I second this, but instead it should be raised to 360 instead of 120. This would improve my skillz in Quake.
I mean 90 works just fine for me. I personally never seen what it looks like to have 120 FOV.
People that are editing their files to get 120 is risking their account to be banned as well. People either want 120 because the game "Looks Better" or thinking they will have an advantage PvP wise which makes no sense to me.
Regardless.. there are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more important things this game needs to concentrate on FIXING before ever thinking about adding a higher FOV.
or thinking they will have an advantage PvP wise which makes no sense to me.
Higher fov means you can see more of what is in front (or to the side) of you.
Being able to see an extra 30° will not guarantee your win in a fight, but I would think it does give you an advantage over someone who has to move their mouse or right stick in order to see the same as you. Which part makes no sense?
@theeggoplant One year. Haven't had any issues with it the past two years. I think you're living under a rock, or living in TDMs where it's expected to have bad hitreg due to too much action
@klutchxking518 its sad that since you aren't having the issue that you are suggesting it isn't a thing, hitreg effects a lot of players in all scenarios be it adventure or arena. This issue has indeed existed for the better part of three years. You suggesting that I live under a rock and saying that one of the biggest issues in the game doesn't exist, just shows that you are probably more active replying on the forums than actually playing the game ;)
Hi! I've been sailing quite often since the closed alpha and, quite frankly, never really heard or saw much about hit-reg until the Sea Dog Arena became a thing (where it's far more prominent). Perhaps getting the Arena was a good thing for exposing it as an issue, but perhaps maybe not. My thoughts on the matter?
REMOVE ARENA.
https://www.hfmmagazine.com/ext/resources/images/2018/magazine/june/HFM0618_CompRegs_sidebar2_700x468.jpgPerhaps then we'll see and hear about it less. After all, 90% of complaints came from the 3% of pirates that sail in Arena. Am I right!? 😅
Wait, wasn't this thread about 120° FoV? 🤔
Yeah, that needs to be done away with too... 😉
@theeggoplant Okay. Let me rephrase this for you. Most of the people that I have sailed with in the past 3 years has agreed that hitreg is not a significant problem in the game, and when it is, it's in specific situations such as in Arena where there are many things for the game to be computing at once. I'm a very active player with 18 million meters sailed and thousands of hours worth stories to tell. I've never missed an event, I think you can take my word for it when I say hitreg is not a massive problem like you're saying it is, and there's much bigger things for the devs to worry about.
Most players in arena are either open crew players who don't care, or TDMers who sit in the corner with 2-3 ships next to each other with 8-12 players running and shooting all over, and the game is trying to calculate everything at once, causing hitreg and lag problems. Funny thing is, TDMing is not even an intended part of Arena, so most of the hitreg complaints come from a place that isn't even meant to happen in the first place.
I know what I've seen, I have asked many people what problems they have with the game, and the vast majority says that there isn't enough action or new things to do, and a very rare type of person who, admits to mainly playing arena, says that hitreg is a problem.
The rock you might be living under, if I had to wager a guess, is the big one labeled "Arena"
@klutchxking518 no need to rephrase it for me!
I too am a very active player who has been playing since day one and have millions of meters and thousands of hours into the game and the stories to attest for it. Also, I don't have a problem with you, I do however have a problem with you undermining the issue that is hitreg. it is no surprise that you would think that I mainly play arena. I care about things working in the game especially when I trust that when I do something it should count. If you play more pve and a little bit of pvp, then you might not encounter hitreg too much..... but that doesn't mean it's not an issue that exists. Saying that hitreg only becomes an issue when there are more moving parts is still a problem and, that's probably when you are trusting hitreg to work the most. Your claims of hitreg not being a big deal are based on yours and the people you play with opinions. hitreg has been recognized by rare as a big issue so much so that there is apparently a separate team working on that issue alone. It is in fact a big issue.
stop assuming I live under some sort of rock and try not to think of your ideas and experiences as absolute. you don't equate to what other people experience so it is in fact not your position to say what matters and what does not.
For me in this game even the 90 degrees FOV causes me irritation, meaning I am unable to play this game for any longer period of time. 90 FOV is fine in most other games though. I read that Sea of Thieves has a different way of calculation FOV from other games. I would very much support the game adding 10-20 degrees to the slider (likely) or switching the calculation style (very unlikely). Thank you.

You clearly don’t get into fights often because last night I was in the water fighting someone right which was 1v1. They ate four sniper shots without eating and died to the fifth. They did land some on me as well that didn’t damage me. Hit registration issues aren’t only a issue in areas of intense action. It’s a general issue that still needs serious work.

Think of the hit to performance as a result of that on lower-end platforms though!
It’s either time to upgrade or just use your 90. You guys on lower end consoles are holding back the games capability just because you haven’t upgraded to a next gen that can actually run the game properly.

A lot of people around the world are having a hard time getting money and staying employed because of Covid, so just saying "throw money at it!" isn't necessarily the high priority option for many right now. And that's not even counting the people like me who want 1 and can get 1, but due to lack of consoles on shelves, still can't get 1 even though they want, and can afford 1.
That said, I'm currently doing just fine so far on my Xbox One X with an external SSD.
