Mysterious Notes and Waking Up Animation

  • The mysterious notes, every single time is quite annoying. The mysterious notes should appear once or even have an option to turn them off. Same with the waking up animation. Have an option to turn it off.

  • I agree after the update happens and you read the note you shouldn't have to read it everytime.

  • Agreed. They streamlined the loading screens, but then added a brand new delay with the tavern "wake up" scene. It doesn't make sense. It's fine once in a while, when something new demands out attention. But every...single...time? It gets old fast. We want to get straight to the plunderin'! Arr!

  • The game was fine for years without this, its been a few months and it just wastes a literal minute before I can move. Which sucks when you spawn into a camped island and you boat gets firebombed and stuff as soon as it spawns.

  • I love the wake up screen! Specially if u load in with your crew who are NOT on an outpost XD

Last time i randomly woke up on an island with a floating note and the dagger was stuck in the air XD.

Nice touch of detail that the wake up in tavern does wake up not in tavern XD

  • I like waking up in the tavern. It's like after the successes of your last voyage your pirate has spent the night drinking grog and living it up in the tavern. Even the mysterious stranger toasts your efforts the previous night with a raise of his tankard. It's a nice touch.

  • Does nobody appreciate the fine craftsmanship and artistry that went into that fine oakwood pirate table? It's a beauty!

  • Agree it was good the first time but after that we don't need it

  • Think there's an option to skip this into, it's somewhere in settings not 100% where.

  • @frostsh0t there’s not unfortunately. Your probably thinking of the setting that allows you to skip the intro cinematic which is what comes up on the “Press Any Button” screen when you load up the game.

  • absolutely agree!
Right now, every time we load in, there's a message on the table. At first, I was like, "whoa what is this?" Looked through the wheel and found the messages and then went, "Oh, ok....I already knew that."

Now, I load into the world and there's a message. And I think, "I've seen these before....nothing new." Or is there? So, I bring up the wheel, Spacebar, R, cycle through the messages and realize, "BLAST....nothing new!"

I've no idea whether these messages are going to be important or not unless I waste the time to check.

I'll stop complaining and offer ideas/solutions now. 😋

Rare could get creative and give an option for "disintegrate message" then a very short animation of your pirate's hand snapping their fingers and the message disappears in a FLASH.
    ~or~
Your pirate pulls out the currently equipped lantern and shoves the message in. You can hold up the now equipped lantern to watch the message burn or just put it down and get back to business.

BUT PLEASE......the messages are not needed each time we load into the world (save for new event alerts or important info).

  • @galactic-geek Honestly, I’m surprised all the tables aren’t timber, considering we’re all sticking daggers into them every day.

  • I don't have a problem with the animation but it has some problems:

    1. All notes need to be able to be removed after you've looked at them. This happens with the ones that are triggered by doing something, but there are 2 in the current update that never go away. If the notes are always there, you are just training your players to not pay attention to them because they'll just always assume they are old notes they've already read. This kind of defeats the purpose of the notes; to alert players to something going on in the game.

    2. Sometimes there is lag or something that causes a reload of the animation but the original audio still plays. This leads to 2 copies of the audio playing simultaneously, but just a bit out of sync.

  • Issues I see with this:

    1. Sometimes plays twice.
    2. Textures not fully loaded until after it starts.
    3. Repetitive messages.

#3 in particular is something that I do find quite odd, because in the past, I have woken up with no message or note. That somehow went away. They need to bring that back so that you won't have anything unless there's something new to announce and/or do.

I do like the idea of using your lantern to burn notes and/or voyages. The only downside to the latter is that your crew will probably need to vote on it 1st (some might say that's not a downside at all).

  • Some people have poor memories, so that why you wake up the same way every session. Some people forget what is going on.

The whole waking up animation, to me anyways, it to keep people from server hopping so much. With that small extra wait time, it becomes an issue but its working.

It a brand new day, session. Of course your gonna wake up at the tavern instead of just..ta-da Im standing there like a zombie.

Well, y'know... Having a zombie wake-up and stagger is also a really cool animation to run through as well. Just add a little variety to things and then you don't get bothered by it so much!

  • I think it should only be used when there’s a new note to read

  • Rare should take note of SUNSET OVERDRIVE with its huge number of different respawn animations.

Every time we "wake up" at the tavern, or at an outpost should be maybe 1 of 5 or so different animations could play.

Waking up on the beach, at the tavern, in the bushes, whatever. Variety would be fun!

I suggested this very thing months ago.

  • I just wish the notes would go away after I read them.

  • @galactic-geek not that I really have any idea what I am talking about but implementing a few new animations surely couldn't be THAT much effort? Regardless, it would be a nice touch

  • @boogyghost101
Yeah noticed it when i started up again, thanks for the correction.

  • Personally I like the wake up scene, it's like after celebrating your previous success in the tavern with a tankard of grog, you wake up the nextmorning only to have your next big adventure! However, I think there should be an option to turn it off for people that just wanna get straight to sailing!

No, because some may accidentally miss or forget something and need to refer back to it. That said, having the ability to manually remove it should be okay.

  • Maybe it could be sped up/edited or they could allow you to at least look in the menu during it, because it does drag on a bit when you've seen it so much.

For awhile, I played a game of "Guess The Tavern" in my head during it.

This would make it a lot more bearable (also, not everyone's taste but I love Sunset Overdrive)

  • The animation is extremely annoying. Rare, please make it skippable at the very least. Why is it still in the game?

  • This has now been fixed - you will no longer see the full animation after you have read all the notes you have.
