Skeleton ship despawned loot?

@miscfu ships doesn't spawn supply barrels...probably was a few meters away from that position

Well, we sunk the ship in open waters, there were no landmasses nearby.
I got up on the crows nest and looked near and far and saw nothing.
We moved the ship to see if we were on top of the loot or something and still nothing.

By supply barrels I just mean barrels. Barrels containing cannonballs etc.
And those barrels and the skull floated to the surface right where we sunk the ship so I'm not sure if it was a loot table bug or what but it doesn't really change the fact that all the loot that was on the ship was somehow missing

only 2 real possibilities here

you got lost or the ship despawned

if you heard the sink sound you just lost the loot location

if it dive bombed back to davy jones' locker it despawned and there is no loot

Out of thousands of skelly ships ive only seen 1 not spawn any loot. You just got off course with where it floated up most likely

The only option would be it despawned but that seems unlikely. I had boarded about a minute earlier and their ship was full of water, about to sink. Then we land a good volley of shots and it goes down. I'm not experienced enough to recognize a specific ship-sinking sound so I can't say. But we've sunk ships before and this ship didn't seem any different.

We definitely didn't lose the ship, we were sails up (not moving fast) when it went down right next to us and we anchored right away. Like I said, barrels and a skull floated up right where it sank.

So unless it despawned, and the game tosses up some garbage loot on despawning pirate ships, then I'm at a loss.
