Sea of Thieves optimized for xbox series consoles

  • I am thrilled that this game is getting enhanced for the new consoles but one thing worries me and that is the lack of a 120FPS mode mentioned in this message:

While it does state these are the key optimizations and not necessarily all of the details I hope we will be able to choose a 1080p 120FPS mode for xbox series x even if it lowers some graphic settings.

  • @l-snapper-l there's already a thread about that right under yours in the recent ones...

  • @schwammlgott I checked before making this, I don't see any

  • I thought the series s was supposed to be doing 1440?

That is the maximum resolution for the console, games don't have to reach that benchmark if it affects performance. Would you rather have 1440p and 30fps or 1080p and 60fps? I think most of us would prefer the latter. And since it wouldn't require those extra assets to get it to that resolution, the game install size would not increase and space is limited on the Series S version (only 364GB of install space left on the console after accounting for the OS on the system).

  • To date, we have seen gameplay footage of nearly every Xbox game being optomized for Series S/X except Sea of Thieves. Will it even work or hold a steady framerate, because the last patch broke the Visuals for the rest of the Xbox consoles. And why is there no mention of Ray Tracing being added? You would expect them to be showing this game in all its glory by now.. Guess on Nov 10th all questions will be answered.

  • @needsmokes what is it with everyone wanting the ray tracing for this game? On max lighting graphics on pc it pretty much looks like it is ray tracing minus water reflections and I am pretty sure they are having high graphic settings on the new consoles

  • @l-snapper-l

Ray tracing is a huge part of the next gen consoles, and both the X & S are both capable of it. It's something lots of Xbox gamers are looking forward to having added to games.

  • @needsmokes I understand that, it is just for this game it has a very high lighting quality already that looks like ray tracing so I don't see why it would need it.

I don't see the need for it for all water reflections, that would be extremely expensive and unnecessary, in my opinion. Maybe for ships and characters, it could add some realism if they're accurately reflected. Also, for object contact shadows, ray tracing can make a big difference where ambient occlusion doesn't quite make objects look situated in the world in a realistic way.

However, I think a combination of ray tracing and other techniques could further improve an already very good looking game.

Because people have no idea what it actually is other than it's the newest feature on graphics cards. (ignoring that raytracing has been around forever but is only now becoming feasible for gaming)
