On non-obtainable skins / cosmetics.

  • Hello there...
    So, on Cosmetics:

They are the only things you earn for “enhancing “your pirate and thus are an obviously major game content designed to incite people to keep playing the game. (along with the getting better/having fun aspect, ofc).

So, I find it a bit hard to offer people some incomplete skin sets. I feel like I paid for a game with incentive but absent content.
I’ve reached a certain “cosmetic level” in the game (full ghost set) and I’m some kind of a collector type of player….

I’m well aware some are time-limited cosmetics once available during special events and that some people are strongly against bringing them back for the sake of owning stuff that others don’t. (By the way try to find someone using the skelly figurehead, I’ve been playing the game for 4-5 months now and I have never, ever, seen one).

So please bring back and complete skin sets partly unobtainable. Make them difficult to earn or at a really steep price (I’m talking Millions or hundreds of dubloons…)

    • Bone crusher set
    • Wailing barnacle set
    • Forsaken ashes set (weapons)
    • Mercenaries set

I’m ok with the twitch items or Standalone cosmetics awarded for contributing in community events (like the insider skin set) But incomplete sets unobtainable by player who couldn’t play at the time for various reason is not reasonable. (I’m following this game since launch but didn’t have the adequate and pricy computer until now).

And, please, allow us to use all the scalable skins unlocked with reaper bones. I liked the Two first variants of the cannon but the last one’s sight/aim is horrible.

    See you on your ship…

  • @kastorevitch I am in complete agreeance with you on being able to use scalable skins that you unlock as you progress up the ladder of a Trade Company. However, I am not with you on bringing back cosmetics that are gone like Bone Crusher, Wailing Barnacle sets.

I understand you were unable to get the game or have the console/pc to play it, but SoT does have a very loyal fanbase who plays for those cosmetics and would be unfair to them to allow them to be collected once again because people missed them due to not being able to play or not having owned the game.

Many games have seasonal rewards that when gone are gone. This is just fine the way it is. I am sorry you and anyone else missed out (I know I have), but I think the next best thing is the off colored Black market items you can buy.

    Nah.

Unless tied to a specific event (i.e. Day One patch, Launch Crew EoR, etc.) I don't think any set needs to be gone forever.

Keep it scarce, but I think it's fine to bring it back every now and then for new folks to try and get.

They are tied to events though.

    • Bone Crusher set - Cursed Sails
    • Wailing Barnacle - Sunken Curse
    • Forsaken Ashes - Forsaken Ashes

Each set came with expansions, and were the time limited items for participating in those expansions as they launched.

Being a completionist is a terrible addiction. As soon as you realise this isn’t a game you can complete, or should even try to complete, you’ll be so much happier.

Eh, I was trying to compromise with people who get all up in arms about that sort of thing, but okay. I'd be fine with everything being available to everyone.

I don't put value on cosmetics based on who doesn't have them.

I'm happy now cause I only go after the cosmetics I want. The Sea Dogs and Reapers stuff is pretty much out cause I'm not touching the Arena or PvP. Whatevs.

Being an elitist is a terrible addiction. As soon as you realise that the cosmetics are just there for fun and convey no status or sense of respect, you'll be so much happier. :)

  • New cosmetics are released all the time. There are plenty attainable sets to work towards. The old stuff has already come and gone. It's rare for a reason, and should remain so.

Yeah i known but i can't help it...

I don't put value on cosmetics based on who doesn't have them.

Neither do i, this value is based on look and on completing collections within the game. I find the shark hunter hull far more esthetic and valuable than the legendary one… which is more uncommon
But i can understand the fact that some skins are rare and shows how much dedication the player put on the game, thus the value of these skin for 'ancient" player. Skins can tell Something about the player who is using them … That's why i never use the complete ghost set. I'm kinda ok in PVP, but i do not feel strong enough to put on such a skin and be somekind of a disappointment...

Ok… but maybe just make the skelly figurehead available one last time? just that? please? (dear dev if you are reading this post….)

As much as people like to rag on the idea, Rare does have a history of making sets available again. Even if it's a repaint variation in Duke's shop.
