SEEING SHIPS ON THE MAP AND HOW IT COULD BE BETTER

  • I have been seeing a lot of complaints about how people can always see reaper bones ships and how grade V reapers can see all emissaries.

I think they both have a point. Lets not totally take away the reapers ability to suprise attack, but also let's not show all emissaries like fish in a barrel.

The solution I see best fitting is to have it where if you are moving your ship you are seen. Probably easiest way to track that would be sails all the way up make your ship invisible on map and sails any amount down make you visible.

So for reaper ships you would only see them when they were on the move. If they stop to restock, turn in, or park and shoot over or row over you won't see their stationary ship. For other emissaries, when there is a grade V reaper crew they can only see your ships on map if you are moving. if you are parked at an island doing stuff they don't see you and can't roll up on your parked ship from islands away unless they naturally find you.

I think this is more fair for both sides of this war that is just beginning.

  • It works fine as is.

If you don't want to show on the map you can choose not to fly the reaper flag, join an emissary, or pick up the reaper chests. These are all optional. You can't show up on other map tables without opting in.

It's a much cleaner system than monitoring ship speed. Your idea would require many more updates to every other ship whenever the speed changes on any of the flagged ships, which means more network traffic, which means more lag.

  • @revanjstone The pirate who decided to represent whichever Emissary chose it on his own accord. I like the incentive that if you reach grade 5 with the Reaper's, then you become kinda like the Sauron of the Emissaries. The other emissaries can see the Reaper's emissaries, at any level, as they have a modded "Reaper's Flag" up.

  • @d3adst1ck i def wouldnt pretend to know how much work would go into any idea but it doesn't have to be about speed just if the sail is all the way up. like how they play a sound if you get full wind in all sails why cant they just know if the sail is 100% up whether ship is gliding to a stop or not. but again idk anything about technical side.

as far as opting in i suppose that is true. i got the impression this was supposed to take over from basically level 15 til level 75 of how you level up your stuff but i guess you could not get the bonus. i wonder how slow it would be 50 to 75.

if it turns out to not be much impact on the game i guess you could ignore it but seems like its gona be a big part of the game going forward so i think its ok to talk about how it could be altered if need be.

  • @supersnipper60 thats true i just wonder 2 things 1. how long does it take to become reaper V and 2. how hard will it be/how much of the game fun/content would you be forfeiting if you just didnt use it as an acceptable way around being seen.

  • @revanjstone
I agree. Having recently hit Pirate Legend, I am not excited to have to grind 25 more levels. Furthermore, if the more efficient or higher payout way to do it is to Use Emmisaries, and those are constantly under threat, I'm worried the grind may become un-fun.

  • @revanjstone I don't know how long it takes to become a reaper 5, but I think it depends on the number of ships sunk and/or chests on ship (like in the content update vid, where it shows the gold hoarders ship rank to level five with maaybe 20-30 items on board). I don't think it would be hard to accomplish the level 5. If you like PvP, then it shouldn't be too hard. It may all depend on the number of ships in the server.

    I hope this covers it?

  • @supersnipper60 if it takes a good while to get reaper V then i guess its ok to allow full sight and it should be up to others to take em out as the huge threat they are.

i been watching some streams too and seems harder for them as reapers to row sneak and if they do their ship is GLOWING on the map waiting to be attacked while they are off doing fun cool sneaky assassin stuff. and while it would be cool to be a evil mega force on the seas another thing i saw was a grade V reaper just attacked endlessly by regular ships til they had to leave haha. i think they should have a chance to rest, stock up and be invisible on the map if not moving as well.

its new in the end so time will tell better, just thinking out loud.

  • @revanjstone If I was a level 5 Reaper, and I needed supplies, I would probably take the flag down, and start over after restocking.

Or I would just over stock.

  • @supersnipper60 ya, or maybe its fair for them to burn bright and fight out to the end. i just still wish there was a possibility for sneaky plays for them i mean they are wearing assassin clothes! haha. also do you know if they get points for killing other reapers? if thats true they may cannibalize theirselves more often than not

  • @joeshilabotnik2 How would the grind become unfun by using emissaries?!? You have to be on your toes the entire time! I'd say that it'd be more fun!

  • @revanjstone I don't know that one, but I believe that since the Reaper's Bones Emissaries get rep from sinking other ships, than you may get rep from them.

  • @supersnipper60 @JoeShilabotnik2
I think he is concerned about murderous pirates having a gps to his location while he is on the island hunting pigs and digging chests haha. which i think is pretty fair. i dont really like the idea of ppl knowing where you are parked. even something more subtle like a marker that says how many emissaries are in each region. thatd give you an idea where they are but not exact satelite spot haha.

  • @revanjstone True, although it does take sometime for a Reaper Emissary to reach level 5. @JoeShilabotnik2 should be safe for a little bit.
