Not nice doing a normal adventure with your crew fending off megs, kraken and skullships, just to have your loot stolen by some bully pirate legend who is obviously bored of the arena.

Stealing loot is not bullying, and the two should not be confused. If he was behaving or speaking in a toxic manner while doing so, then yes, that's against The Pirate Code. But simply sailing up, overpowering you, and taking your treasure is not bullying. It's just playing the game as intended.

so somebody waiting at the end of the heart of fire tall tale with boom barrels waiting for some poor sucker to walk up with the chest of rage to turn in while not speaking at all is just playing the game?

  • @spikeynator exactly what i thought

  • @spikeynator just to add what you said, we just started our voyage on the heart of fire tall tall, literally just getting supplies for our ship and what happens? Some loner decided to bomb our ship with fire balls? Why does he do it you ask? Would not know probably because its a pirate game? Any way he killed me then one of my crew killed him on the ferry of the damned i asked him why did he do that? Why not go to the arena if he wants to destroy ships? His responce? Just a wave. All fun and games yes but if not provoked why cant other players not be left the hell alone?

  • @spikeynator The Tall Tales are of a different matter, but removing PvP doesn't fix something like that. Barrels will still kill, so would blunderbombs and firebombs. There's so nothing short of private, single player servers that would fix that entirely.

And as I understand it, private servers are never going to be a thing outside of those silly alliance servers.

  • @sgtsniper887 You have to understand that such a player doesn't know what you're doing or what you have. Maybe he thinks you're turning in loot, and is trying to get a piece of that pie.

You can't blame a player for attacking you.

  • @a-few-moose Agreed a friendly server would be excellent. If they don't do that then anyone in an alliance that attacks and kills another player in the alliance should have a 30 minute penalty from playing the game. There after all should be honor among thieves or else why bother? It really does suck to work for 2 hours on a quest only to be hit by a random pvp player to end your quest to have to start it all over again and with the new update coming it is only going to get worse.

Yes they are. They may be playing as jerks to an extent but they are still just playing the game. That is the persona that have chosen to take during that particular play session. In the end it is just for fun (even if you do not see it), people need to stop taking a GAME so seriously.

Simply because you are doing a Tall Tale does not exempt you from the possible danger of other players nor AI/environmental threats. Just because they play differently than you does not make it any less a more valid way of playing. If they continuously harassed you end upon end that would be another story. But wreaking havoc without seeking any further reward than that is still just playing the game, whether you or I like it or not. Best to be prepared for this instances, once I accepted that I had a lot less stress and more enjoyment playing the game.

  • Well judging from the coments here does not look like i stand a chance in getting through to someone, and seeing those who comment with the its only a game and so on are the hardcore pirates lol. Well tbh when i play i always keep a look out for other ships.

Yes, that's just playing the game. You could consider that being toxic, but seeing as I was talking about the action of stealing loot and not deliberately disruptive acts, tagging my response was pointless. Please don't use me to strawman :)

  • Let the sad, socially awkward, scurvy little pirates float around in their echo chambers.

LOL and the pvpers are the toxic ones? yeah sure bud
you knew when you bought the game there where no pve servers. yet you bought it and now you are crying about the pvp. lol the hypocrisy keep digging yourself a grave dude.

  • @maverian right? The tolerance from the pve community is great. I have a clip of me camping a boat on arena (because they said they’d camp me) and they were getting mad they couldn’t compete with me and I kept killing them over and over. But I have multiple clips of them saying things like “I hope you die” and other things.

  • @maverian but the pvpers are the toxic ones lol

  • @sgtsniper887 not saying I did it to you; but I did do something like that recently. Only because the person was shouting racial slurs like a madman. Eye for an eye.

  • @sherpa725 To be fair, as a PVP player. I can't consider myself toxic. The sole reason I engage in combat is if I see that the other person is being foul to another player. Like bullying. I think of it as a vigilante. So if you see a sloop being bullied by a Gally and you see a Sloop with red sails rolling up, just step back or hop in the fight chief. Because that Gally is going down.

  • I say as Insiders we should band together and make the Insider Sail mean something more than a fancy sail. Perhaps maybe a law bringer of the sea. Sound good? Who's in?

  • Interesting bit from Mike Chapman (Rare Creative Director) today:

    This is Sea of THIEVES!

    (His words😉)

We want players to experience the thrill of a player ship versus another player ship in battle. ----Turning the chance of these encounters off completely has never felt like Sea of Thieves---- but the Emissaries provide that opt-in experience whereby you can take on more risk and literally be a potential target, with the potential rewards being so much greater. Crucially, we felt it was important for players to still be able to play the game as it is today before the addition of Emissaries. This is why you can still progress through the expanded level progress without being an Emissary. We want to encourage it, but you don’t have to and are also able to choose based on the session you’re in.

This is all very deliberate. Emissaries will progress faster, but you are a target to others. Sometimes fate will be in your favour and sometimes it won’t. This is Sea of Thieves.

So there you have it. You will always have the opportunity to ramp up the chances of PVP (or not), but never down completely.

There is a reason why Sea of Thieves is named Sea of Thieves. The only time I have honor for a pirate is if they can out-trick me. I don't know when a pirate has spent the last 2 hours on a quest. I can't wait for the Emissary program, and the Reaper's Bones are calling.

  • I have a question for all of you: How will Emmissaries work on friendly servers? Reaper's Bones Emmissaries have to sink other players, right? Friendly servers, no Reaper's Bones rep, no extra gold.

My guess is it will be some form of boosting. For example, one crew agrees to let another sink them, then they switch roles. Then again, I honestly don’t know how the emissaries work yet.

  • @ghostpaw That would be funny. "YO! Sink me for rep!"
    just imagine

  • I Might as well finally put my hat in this ring as out right say. The possibility of private severs would maybe happen in the coming future for these reasons.

    1. Is the big fact of SoT coming to Steam and why be this important? Well usually Xbox users be online globally from 6-10 million a day roughly. But with steam its users are at 47 million global users. This in any case could just tip any scale of battle for the pc and xbox people. Now say SoT would be a big hit in steam and in theory there be more pc players than xbox players in the game. For one this will flood the severs full if people enjoy it. Now if it gets real good but say there is limited space to put more people in. So then if so then private severs would be more possible.

    2. Because of the increase of players, adding in private severs wouldn't make a big dent or slip into the player base. Like another theory, say before steam there is roughly 7mil (just imagine if that be the case as I doubt its the real amount). Now 5mil out of the 7 are xbox players and because the cross-play thing happen now only 2mil be playing in cross-play lobbys and the 5mil are playing in the xbox only severs. But then when steam comes on and if its a hit then the pc player numbers be at 30mil (Again just random numbers but think it as possible) With such a big number adding private would only say take 5mil away from 30 so you still have a big 25mil left to play around with. Of course numbers change during time but you get the idea.

    3. As much as the SoT community is the hub of what people think of the game and discussions etc, Steam would have the bigger voice overall for pc players weather you like it or not. And really in any case Rare would listen to the bigger voice because that be the majority play base now. But if Rare stay to there guns and stick to the xbox/MS side of things then they could just loose such a big chunk of players that they stay to same player count as we are today.

Of course im not expert in business of that kind of stuff but really in common sense most businesses would go for where majority are at to make profit. But in the end if it happens or not there will be people who will argue it be a bad idea or not. So really we just have to wait and see how it turns out.

  • @xblackwolfx9008 I don’t think you saw my post above the one where I said pvpers are toxic but it was 100% intended to be sarcasm

I think there should be a server like the arena where the players cannot attack each other and make their trip quiet without being robbed or killed I agree it is his players who destroy the beauty of is game

Well my friend. That's when the fun begins.

  • @cypresgreat56 i did it before in this thread and i usually dont do it more often then once per thread, but alright maybe to let you see the TRUE beauty of the game, mind you that this has always been advertised as a online ONLY shared world PvEvP game no more, no less:

Be a good sport. Sea of Thieves is a pirate game, and stealth, stealing and the battles are all part of the fun. All pirates on the seas accept that, but be a good sportsman in both victory and loss.

Following we have someone that asked the question on twitter aimed at Mike Chapman (creative director at Rare) here is his answer:

If that still isn’t enough to make you see that Rare isn’t going to add PvE servers the following URL is of the live stream they did on February 4th 2020, at 55:18 the big question gets asked, “PvE servers coming” which Jon answers with e stern “No”

Private servers are coming however, these just are mostly useless for most people, why ? Because there will be completely no progression as these servers will be meant for people and communities that set up events like but not limited to:

    • Race of Legends
    • Sea of Champions
    • The Cursed Captain
  • @xblackwolfx9008 nope it wasnt you, and i dont shout racial slures, put it this way, if i provoked you then yes, go have a bash.

  • Okay i do see a lot of response to this pve thing, now if i provoked anyone i do apologise, this is a fun game for all to enjoy, i really do get its a pirate game and thats it. I did not understand playing for hours chasing other ships to kill them just to get the thrill and not a progression, only when you cash their loot, which i am fine with, the point is why chase a ship all across the map just to end up sinking him and getting nothing if you already are a pirate legend? If there already is a progression for this and i have missed it, sorry. But if not that would be an ideal progression, hunting all the ships, destroying and looting to progress to king pirate or something? Any thoughts?

  • @emerald-hyper said in Please add friendly servers:

Rare and common sense aren't exactly the best of friends :)

I suppose that's what happens when you take business advice from streamers :)

  • @roverandom5158 no obvious bias, but information shared by the devs in dev update video’s, live streams on social media posts (reddit and the likes)

No before you go call someone out for misrepresentation please do even a bit of research into the fact and see what they truly want to do with the private servers

  • It really makes me laugh when a bunch of PVE players start playing a PVP game and then they want to change it to what they want. What a joke.

  • @roverandom5158 if you see and actually read what i posted was the multitude of information on no PvE servers being added, i then extended that with the fact that private servers are coming and what their intent is with that, i have read but not at that time acquired the urls to the devs extended statements on the no progression facts of those private servers and their intent with them (allow the community to host previously hard/tedious to host events like “race of legends”)

Again dont call me out for not doing my research when you cant even read a post correctly and have no further information on what will and wont be done.

I posted a port from the community code of conduct made by rare (showing the idea behind the game), a twitter response by @MikeTheMutinous who is a ranking rare employee AND a video snippet of a Dev livestream where the exact question “will there be pve servers?” Was asked and the devs giving a resound NO for an answer.

The only part i dont provide the proof of is the private servers part (which where announced before that live stream i might add) having no progression, since i didnt get the links to those communications (yet)

  • Firstly, I'd like to apologise especially for my first reply as it was a little more personal than was intended and the tone does not help further the conversation.
I obviously have no issue with yourself and I have removed both replies.

I have read your post (quite a few times in different threads :)) and I completely agree with you with regards to PvE servers.

@callmebackdraft said in Please add friendly servers:

It has been 2 years since release and more if you include alpha thru beta.
Like yourself I have been there since the very beginning and have seen pretty much everything that Rare has talked about.

The only reason you cant find any quote regarding private servers and no progression is because, in all that time, none exists. The closest is Joe's quote.

I find it quite telling that they wouldn't come out and say it directly. Similar to PvE servers and John and his flat "No".

Now, it's quite possible it's just down to Rares shocking communication on just about everything regarding SoT but its equally likely that they are just hedging their bets similar to the recent time-limited debacle.

With regards to events. The "Loot and Lore" gameshow obviously wouldn't really work with no progression as an example.

I suspect what will actually happen will be some sort of weird compromise which will make no one particularly happy.

I guess well find out if and when they finally arrive.
