small survey about toxicity and region/timezone and PC/xbox

  • I want to do a small survey.
Please consider to partake and give the following Infos:

    Platform: xbox/ PC
    Region: Us East/West, EU, Oceanic...etc...
Fokus: PVE only, PvP only, PvEvP mixed
Toxicity Rating: 1-10, 1 very low, 10 very high.
(what you encounter and "feel" about others)

    Me:
    Platform: PC
    Region: EU
    Fokus: PvEvP mixed
    Toxicity Rating: 4

Toxicity to me means trashtalk, using exploit and insult me while bragging around.

But if you think you need to be left alone while doing PvE and PvP is toxic make your rating.
It's about your feeling no exact definition.

Is toxicity how you yourself rate or what you encounter ? Guessing the latter - but as all the other questions are about the person...

  • @lem0n-curry

Edited above, about what you feel and encounter.

Yes i try to understand the very much different percepction of the games PvP and correlated "toxicity".
I think it's a region thing and maybe also a platform thing.

  • @bugaboo-bill
You may have misunderstood me, is it how toxic I would rate myself or how toxic other people are ?

  • Platform: P.C.
    Region: U.S.A.
Focus: PvEvP w/ strong PVP leanings
    Toxicity Rating: 1

  • @lem0n-curry
    Others, edited again 🐒

  • Platform: Xbox One X w/controller & SSD
    Region: Southeastern United States (Florida)
    Focus: Mixed
    Preferred Playstyle: Tactical Ambusher
    Favorite Weapon(s): Cutlass & Flintlock
    Average Crew Size: Solo
    Personal Toxicity: 2
    Community Toxicity: 5

  • Platform: PC
    Region: United States (Texas)
Focus: Pure PvP, no tucking, sink everyone, goal full server clear
Preferred Playstyle: charge in guns blaZing, activate FOTD to attract server hoppers for pvp, patrol every area following the wind, hoard stolen loot to attract pvp.
    Favorite Weapon(s): Cutlass & sniper
Average Crew Size: Solo and three man brig
    Personal Toxicity: 2
    Community Toxicity: 2

for good karma we typically donate our stock brig at the end of the night via the sea of thieves discord so someone can complete the fort we activated.

  • When it comes to toxicity , it varies in waves ...i haven't played Arena in a whole while now since the waiting times for a game were getting ridiculous...In the Adventure game i can say that i have met little or no trash talk , not even exploits or spawncamping , and no i didn't opt out towards the PC player...Many pirates i encounter aren't even talking or are using other channels like partychat , Discord or other things…
That's maybe a blessing towards thrashtalk but i can't make a connection to these Pirates anymore ,what i also regret and find sad...

    Me: KnifeLife
    Platform: Xbox
    Region: EU
Focus: Passive aggressive (Don’t really start fights but have no issues being in them.

Toxicity Rating: 3 For me I don’t get offended if people attempt to insult me or are rude. Doesn’t bother me and I don’t find it toxic, more funny.

So my rating comes from toxicity in the sense of AFK farming, dumping your own crews items etc.. which for me has been very uncommon.

  • why a region think? you have in every region all kinds of players....im german and i think germans are really toxic :D

  • Platform: xbox
    Region: US E
    Focus: PvP
    Toxicity: 0.3-0.5

As the toxicity rating was out of 10, I asked myself, "out of every 10 exchanges with people, how many people actually insult/exploit/grief crewmates/etc?"

Perhaps it's because I keep to closed crews and xbox parties, or perhaps I've just lucked out in my experiences, but I find maybe one in 20 or 30 is being a bad sport.

  • Platform: PC
    Region: EU
    Fokus: PvEvP
    Toxicity Rating: 1
    Friendliness: 1
Included the last point, because the seas might not be toxic, but they are definitely hostile. The game just doesn't allow enough room for friendly interactions.

  • Platform: PC /XBox
    Region: USA East
    Fokus: PvEvP mixed
    Toxicity Rating: 3

I mute other crews once they have language issues.

  • @weedstar-deluxe sagte in small survey about toxicity and region/timezone and PC/xbox:

why a region think? you have in every region all kinds of players....im german and i think germans are really toxic :D

German gamers are mostly tryhards imho. I feel like US timezone is much more aggressive, not neccessarily toxic, but more pvp orientated. Try to find out if i'm right about that. Same for platform.
Since xbox Opt out it's a little more calm on the seas, but if you meet someone it's more aggressive on PC.

That’s actually a good one to add to be fair, mine would be around 2 also. I don’t really encounter much toxicity. But like you’ve put I also very rarely encounter anyone friendly lol.
For a social game it’s very lonely minus your crew lol

  • Intresting ill play along
    Name:FaceYourDemon

(We sink a ton of player ships but never show disrespect when doing so. If someone is on a TT I message them and tell them the location of their relic but they've usually quit by then).

I come across an occasional ambush while loading into the game and a trash talker from time to time. The way I respond typically quells the situation (Take the time to teach people by example with your responses).

  • Platform- PC

    Toxicity- .02
    Personal Toxicity-0
The toxic encounters I've seen were on youtube and in this forum, sailing, only twice have I met situations that made me a little uncomfortable, once rude and once creepy. I just remembered... there was one truly toxic player in the Arena and he was an embarrassment to himself.

  • Platform: xbox
    Region: US East
    Focus: PvEVP
    Toxicity: 1

I didn't count exploits because I personally don't believe that is toxic, but I've only encountered 1 or 2 effective double-gunners.

  • Platform: Xbox
    Region: US East
    Focus: PVEVP Mixed
Toxicity: 6 (when I meet other pirates I assumed)

To me, Toxicity is when people trash talk but not in a Pirate way, it not funny. (Arg! You crab bucket! Codfish) Or get bent out of shape when they lose a gold or items.
Exploits is not the player fault, game for allowing them but if anyone can use it. Ok.

  • Platform: PC & Xbox
    Region: EU
Focus: PvEvP mixed.. never have a focus in mind.. I just play the game!
    Toxicity: Rating: 0-1

    Salt rating: 10/10 😅

  • Platform: Xbox
    Region: USA East coast
    Fokus: PvEvP mixed
    Toxicity Rating: 6-7

Depends on the day. Long story short someone saw I was doing a tall tale and took the quest item dropped it in the water and I proceeded to get spawn killed by an entire galleon while the chat is spammed with roll on the deck laughing
And thanks. Nothing was on my boat not even a foul bounty skull or a castaway chest. Also I get a lot of Xbox live messages from people I sink or sink me saying all sorts of stuff. I don’t message back usually but sometimes it’s hard to resist.

    Platform: Xbox/controller/no ssd
    Region: US, Florida
Focus: Super Casual Solo Slooper/PvE squad
    Toxicology: 3

I play EST between 11pm and about 7 am typically. I do play in the afternoons as well, still opting out, but haven't noticed a difference from before. I'd say 1 in 10 sessions I get attacked. 1 in about 20 I get some aggressive squad that (tries to...) chases me down. Haven't found much toxic players. Just annoying. I'm not sure if they're using exploits cause I'm bad at pvp combat. 🤷🏽‍♀️😋

  • I'll use the @Galactic-Geek answers as a basis.

    Platform: Xbox One X w/controller
Region: South America (Brasil, São Paulo)
    Focus: Mixed
Preferred Playstyle: The Crew Bond Is Sacred. Others are just my targets.
    Favorite Weapon(s): Cutlass & Blunderbuss
    Average Crew Size: Solo
Personal Toxicity: 2 (I just spawnkill till the enemy quit if they insult me, but i'm against insults made by me)
Community Toxicity: 7 (I'm really tired of a lot of things here, so sarcasm and memes tend to be my answer to most questions. But I'm apt for logical arguments and good conversation)

  • Platform: xbox/PC
    Region: US Central
Focus: PVP; PVE only for commendations
Preferred Playstyle: Almost never alliance, but if I'm in an alliance, never break (unless they break first); sneak/steal as much as possible
    Favorite Weapon(s): Cutlass/Snipe or Blunder/Snipe
    Average Crew Size: 3-4
Personal Toxicity: 0. I always try to help new players if possible; I always return tall tale items if they are part of a score
Community Toxicity: 3. I'm constantly amazed at how some people think it's completely acceptable to shout "sit down (&$(#(&$" when they kill you. I've been invited to parties after we've stolen from players and been told everything from "go kill yourself" to "I hope your children get c@ncer"

  • @bugaboo-bill
    Platform: PC
    Region: EU
    Focus: PVE only
Toxicity Rating: 5, I just bought the game yesterday. Didn't have time to get on my ship for the very first time, because it was attacked and destroyed by a player. While one on his boat destroyed mine, a 2nd one from his crew was on the dock, shooting at me as I tried to escape. This was a 10/10 toxic: it made no sense, I just began the game and was buying clothes and stuff before boarding. A few hours later I met another crew and everything went fine, they were friendly. This was a 0/10 toxic. Therefore, 5/10 for now.

    • Platform: PC (controller)
    • Region: EU (West)
    • Focus: PvE centric/PvP in defense only
    • Other Crews' Toxicity Rating: 4 - I've had all kinds of interactions, some awful, but mostly fine. Evenings and weekends tend to be a lot worse than midweek afternoon sailing.
    • My Toxicity Rating: 4 - I have a temper, I watch my language but I do get a little salty under pressure. Usually I get a bit weird rather than call names - I like to point out when I lose solo to a galleon/brig that they must be "the best ever"! And I congratulate them in the most patronising, sarcastic way possible. I calm down very fast though as I'm more annoyed at myself for being terrible at PvP and letting them get close enough to me.
  • Platform: Xbox w/SSD
    Region: USA East
    Focus: PvEvP
    Toxicity: See Below

In Game: Overall toxicity, less than a 1. Overall aggressiveness, 3. Personally I am defining truly toxic as players who are insulting to others or repeatedly chase, kill or spawn camp you for no reason. You can trash talk a bit without being toxic. That is just excitement that comes from encounters. With toxicity I'm personally a 0. I don't hunt someone down unless a commendation requires it. If you come at me then I'll fight no problem. I never name call or insult people. I was raised better than that. (Shout out to my Mom, Love ya!) I have only spawn camped a few times against players who attacked me first just to get supplies since I can get supplies anywhere. As far as others toxicity, I have been sailing almost a year and I only remember 3 times I ran into those who were insulting. I run into aggressive (not toxic) players about 1 in 5 sessions. Of those aggressive players I'd say 1 in 20 spawn camp to get loot or supplies then leave you alone (not toxic) and I've only had 4 or 5 instances where they spawn camped just to kill me (toxic). Maybe 1 in 20 encounters are using some type of exploits to fight better. (Don't agree with it but still not toxic). Had ships chase me for no reason after sinking me knowing I had no loot or upon spawning in game a few dozen times but I can out sail them no problem. (Toxic but avoidable through good sailing techniques) If someone is being toxic or I don't feel like fighting I just switch servers.

In Forums: Toxicity level is 3. Forums are a great place to come and to share ideas and discuss things. Many are helpful here and overall a great place. However it seems that nowadays it's hard for people to come together and discuss something they disagree on without being toxic. It's possible to disagree and be productive with it. When you get a subject that people feel strongly on, it seems civility flies out the window fast. Some just don't realize how much better your voice is heard when your civil to others. Even in disagreements.

In all I think a lot of people I see get sunk or their loot taken is due to being new and not fully understanding the game or by making major mistakes. Then they label this as others being toxic when they are just being pirates. It would help if some would just learn how to be pirates and invest in learning the game instead of getting the game, having someone sink them and then becoming toxic themselves while crying wolf about others toxicity when they are just being pirates. I have found that 90% or more of toxic reports are simply untrue. It's just those who hasn't fully learnt how to be a pirate.

  • Platform: OG Xbox
    Region: TEXAS
Focus: I just go with the wind man.
Toxicity Rating: me 0 others average 3/10.

  • Platform: PC
    Region North Western Europe
Focus: A combination of casual sailing and plundering other players
Toxicity: 2, I can totally understand people being mad about getting sunk so I ignore mad screams with profanity. I just smile and wave.

  • Platform: Xbox one the toaster edition kitted with a supercharger (SSD, cheap one but still lot better) 9/10 times controller, sometimes I feel like kb/m
    Region: Nordic EU
Focus: When an update rolls out PvE till most if not all new commendations are done, rest of the month PvP/messing around.
Toxicity Rating: When against non toxic ppl I'd say average of 3, might throw a RoDL or something. Against toxic tryhards especially the ones who call you noob after they die, my floodgates open up and toxicity let's loose maybe like a solid 8.
