Suggestion: rewards for turing things in as part of an alliance

  • Since cross play opt out seems to be on the back burner (the back back back burner) it would be nice to see some method of encouraging less toxic play and getting more alliances that stick together. some rewards for turning stuff in while in an alliance - commendation based cosmetics, or perhaps an alliance based trading company again with cosmetic rewards. To stress: the progress needs to be keyed to turning loot in to help prevent back stabbing.

I could see that working, though backstabbing could easily still happen. You'd just only get half of what you gathered. Don't know how it's meant to relate to crossplay, though the less it does, the better, since that's off topic.

  • The charm with alliances is that you earn something from betraying the alliance, if they promote it to much it will just lead to the entire server will be on the same side which would just ruin the game.

  • @kylestr you already get rewarded for joining alliances, its called getting a cut for everything they sell. pirates that dont join alliances, dont join them cause they either like pvp, or dont trust you enough to care

  • @d4m0r3d Most peope who play the game no longer need money or even xp from alliances so the value has decreased, plus it really feels like only the pvp types are left, with most adventurers having opted out of the game entirely since cross play opt out hasn't been implemented. Also rare once made a big deal about actual friendships this game has created. That nearly always happens from friendly encounters not hostile ones. Just wanting to see that come back to the game - it was great meeting cool people who were chill about playing and just wanted to have fun in the world, not ruin other peoples fun.

  • How the F. can you little pirates, always make yourself the victim!!!!
Cross play, cross play cross play.
sorry for the little rage :P but so tired of all the cross play talk.

Alliance is fine as it is. an here is a tip.
If you make any alliance, but you dont put in some extra work to make it a Stabel alliance, how can you exspect any other outcome than betraying ??

You should always talk to the other crew, such simple thing as giving a compliment of their closing or ship cosmetic, a little bonding, laughing, joking goes a long way to make an alliance strong.

    much love. GreenCamilion

How is meeting worthy opponents not making new friends? I make more friends by finding cool and skilled fighters in the heat of battle than I do by teaching day 1 noobs how to play the game.

Am I going to waste my time and go search out the same day 1 player and try to build him up when he barely has an interest in the game? Or I could group up with a new guy who I respect and build a friendship through conflict and battle.

I don't mind if they add 1 or 2 alliance only commendations but we need the same amount of pvp commendations as well because this isn't Sea of Friends. Its Sea of Thieves and trust isn't something that should be given out lightly.

    Welcome to the Fray.

  • @kylestr the PvP types, as if that aren't the same people out on a voyage, commendations hunt, etc. You meet others more often in PvP than peaceful situations, that is because pirates tend to avoid conflict or when they see opportunity to strike they will.

Then the hardware you use ruins my game... are you on about keyboard mouse vs controller? This isn't limited to a PC or Xbox, both OS support either. Yet I get is is another PC boogeyman vibe.

Alliances get a bonus, more commendations might help promote them. Yet how often do you use that horn we gotten? How often do you negotiate with the opponents?

You are the lead in your own experience, I can strike a truce often enough based on how I play, which is also with a controller at times. Maybe learn to play around the fact that if pirates see a chance to use the situation for their gain they will use it and talk to them.

You will still meet meatheads that just want to fight fight fight, yet if spoken to others that adjust and negotiate. Just don't do it after they won the battle, there is no incentive at that point to keep you alive. Also I'm friendly is enough...

  • @kylestr ehhh, i enjoy being back stabbed and gold is still a pretty good reward, plus alliances get shared dabloons now with reapers chests. so i mean its pretty good, and there are already commendations like skelly ships while in an ally, and turn stuff in or defeat stuff while in an ally (at least i think there is).

  • @cotu42 I've met NOBODY though pvp, tons through the alliance system - and some before when one would signal friendliness by playing a musical instrument. my crew even put together the smugglers bay party that caught the attention of the devs early in the game (I believe it was the very first in game content that mike chapman retweeted)

Its not just keyboard vs mouse. its loading/respawn times, ability to hack (and I've seen a lot - especially aimbots and instantly finding impossible to find loot), things like doubleshot, and well, the general toxicity that seems to pervade the PC community, which is why so many xbox players are desperate for cross play opt out. in lieu of that some things that promote alliances staying together until the loot is turned in (beyond the gold or now common dubloons).

So you want to force your playstyle on the rest of us who would like to meet people who perhaps prefer a more relaxed attitude when it comes to meeting new people. I'm not talking day 1 noobs as you so put it - but so nice how you don't want to spend any time helping to introduce new people to the game. I've met a few new players, but a much larger number of pirate legends who don't enjoy the pvp aspects of the game (especially when it gets toxic).

  • @kylestr

    Toxic plays

Oh i see you're one of them .. poor souls

This is really good advice. Tell a few jokes, ask what they're up to and help, offer them some cooked food. It'll go a long way towards forging a better bond between the crews.

I do like the OPs suggestion of alliance based commendations though. I can't see what harm could come from adding them.

The reason alliance betrayal is so common is because it's fun. It feels good to double cross a stranger and get away with it.

That's why you need to establish a bond with the other crews in an alliance, it's less fun to double cross someone you like. It feels bad.

So don't be silent and faceless in an alliance, get to know your allies so that they remember that it's a real person they're thinking about betraying.

The best Alliances I've ever been in came about after both crews had fought each other to a stalemate. If you fight well and are gracious in both victory and defeat you'll earn respect. That's another good way of keeping an alliance together. If I respect you I'll respect the alliance.

    1. Tag someone when you are quoting them so others can know your source as well as the poster can find it easier and respond.

    2. Who wants to force a playstyle here? You're the one who wants commendations only meant for alliance players. I simply am happy with how it currently is.

    3. Tried playing nice to players; but after 10 minutes of trying my hardest to tell them how to join an alliance I decided I'm wasting my time and would get more value in taking their resources and sinking them than trying to have an intelligent conversation with them.

    4. It isn't my concern if people enjoy fighting or not, I bought this game so I shall decide how I play it. They can either run, give up and let us loot them, or fight back.

    5. Depending how you mean toxic I may or may not agree with you. If you think toxic is spawn killing and looting people at random till your heart's content, that's not toxic. Toxic is hate speech, telling people to "kys", and spamming their message box constantly days after the 1 fight.

  • @kylestr There's already a huge reward in being part of an alliance. That's why you sometimes run into server wide alliances.

    Very well said 👏
