Open Crews matchmaking

  • Hey dev's
I was wondering how much you play in open crews? (in adventure mode)

It's not what it used be. When the game started, we were all the same. As we ranked up (at different paces) there was still a common competency for the game... As time marches on, open crews no longer support like minded/skilled pirates finding each other.
It has become a cringe inducing experience.

I believe I have the backing of the community to ask for some form of matchmaking for open crews.

    LFG's (on X-box) are a bit of a joke and a headache.
Discord groups are more selective and not conducive for X-Box players.

I believe you could add general matchmaking options.
-By faction levels: 1-25 and 26-50
    -Mic or No Mic
    -Meters sailed
    -Chests turned in
    -Voyages complete

… and just like your cross play option, a noob or two may trickle into a crew based on who is available.

This doesn't create exclusion with-in the Open crew matchmaking. People still have noob friends that they will invite and Noobs will still seep into crews of more established players. This will stop the hemorrhaging of your player base (from one area)

Over all I feel crews made nearly of the same caliber of members will make the gameplay a more welcoming and enjoyable experience and will leave LFG's for more specific things.

XBox LFGs are fine if you're a bit patient. I've sat there for half an hour on some occasions looking for more like that one post that escaped me, or that other one that never responded, until I found a good one or another friend got online. As for skill-based matchmaking, it could work, done right. I feel skill-based servers would also be nice, if done actively rather than passively. You can choose to run around in a sort of 'tutorial' server, where you can figure out the game but progression is limited so players can't farm here, you can choose to play the normal game, or you can choose to play in a high-skill 'elite' server, for those incredibly good players who run around looking for a crew to give them a challenge, and then server-hop until they actually find one.

LFG's are like open crew but with a misleading label.

-#adultsonly : kids looking to be carried
-#knowhowtosail : you're going to be Pirate uber
-#fishing : this post will be hijacked
-#PvP : I always jump off after boats on the horizon 6 islands away
-#420friendly : you're going to listen to me get high, eat and fall asleep.

I can spend just as much time jumping from open crew to open crew looking for competent sailors. Ultimately, I'd rather not.

Different servers are easier said than done. Rare doesn't own the servers they are using for SoT. On top of that they would have to have another team that dealt with those separate servers for updates and technical issues. They are already struggling with Areana and that's on separate servers.

  • Its often about what are we going to do?

    Gather all loot
    Athena voyage
    Forts
    Fleets
    Commendations
    Pvp
    Arena
    beginners

Could be nice if you could search on something like this to more easy get a like minded crew.
