Technical Mic problem

  • Hello, first of all I wanted to apologize if the thread that I am opening is in the wrong place which I assume it is, however I could not find a category for tech problems, I would really appreciate if someone who had this problem before would help me out with this problem.
So , as I said in the title the problem is related to audio chat. when I give permission to the game SoT in mic privacy settings windows 10 to use mic, when I open the game the audio of the game goes away and I cant hear anything. It's the same in Xbox game bar. in there when I join a voice chat party , I can talk and hear my friends however , as soon as I join the voice chat, any other audio including Sot's , will go away. need to note that I have not this problem in discord. Thanks for reading and spending time on it. Good luck On the Seas.

try unplugging it then plug it back in and if that doesn't work try and put up a support ticket.

I don't think it has a mic but if it does I think it's prolly time to get new airpods

I have an idea of what might be happening. Windows 10 has a "feature" that will automatically reduce or mute the output volume any time it detects activity on an open microphone. It drove me mad when I first ran into it.....

Here's how to check the setting:

    1. open Windows settings, System, Sound
    2. on the right side, scroll down to "Related Settings" and click "Sound Control Panel"
    3. click the Communications tab
    4. select "do nothing"
    5. click OK

I hope this is your issue because that's how easy it is to fix!

    Happy sailing!

The OP stated they have no issues with Discord or party chats, only in SoT, so this is a bad suggestion IMO.

@Vermithore There are numerous people suffering from this problem, myself included. When I am in Xbox Party Chat (through the Xbox App on PC) with my friends, my headset/microphone works fine. Although I don't have Apple Airpods, the symptoms are the same. I can use my headset/microphone fine on Steam, Xbox Party Chat, Discord, Twitch streaming, but on SoT, most times, it's not picked up.

I believe the issue is between SoT and Windows 10 settings. There seems to be issues every time there is a Windows Update too whereby when you get it working, an update will mess something up.

    Some tips are:

    1. Windows settings, privacy settings on mic/headset, make sure Xbox and SoT are checked.
    2. In Xbox app make sure it's not default mic/headset but named.
    3. Check audio properties on mic and make sure the mic/headset is set as default and default communications device.

    Good luck!

  • I go through the same procedure each time I load the game not necessarily when theres a win update, xbox app, game bar or discord update.

First fix the nat to open
Run win sound recorder to check mic is recording.
Have xbox app AND game bar open
    Reset discord voice settings Every.single.time.
Make sure ingame party chat is on/off accordingly.
Play in window or minimise to rewake discord as it knocks you off into afk. (How do you stop this?)

Oh and why is the process of inviting & joining games so cumbersome. Having to have discord & xbox app open. Add each other as friends just to play one game, and restarting the app before you see the join option.
