Again, I don't think the developers have a clue, just one thing for single players?

  • @luciansanchez82 Welcome back :)

  • I found players easy straight away, maybe try talking to players in game chat rather than being in party chat? maybe try raising your sails before you get to them to show you don't want to attack

  • @durengo-germany said in Again, I don't think the developers have a clue, just one thing for single players?:

Yes RARE treat the game like a MMORPG and that is absolutly ok !

I agree, but then they need to make the game WORK like an MMORPG, because this doesn't work at all.

  • If you are on xbox create a looking for post on your xbox home page. You will get a four man crew to do your specific task in minuets. Then just find one ship to be your fifth. Works for ANY game for me when my frineds aren't on.

  • @skullmanbeard While I respect that good communication and good etiquette goes a long way in putting a ship you are trying to communicate with at ease, you're missing a few details.

I completed Skeleton Thrones yesterday. It took about 10 hours of playtime. Only about 3-4 of that was actually finding and landing on thrones. I used no spoilers and found everything myself or with friends in my crew or... at the last, the people who finally sailed with me.

The rest of the time me or my crew tried to get another crew to help. Our technique was to approach slowly, with sails up and not in a broadside position. No cannons would bear on the other crew. We often waited until after it was clear the other ship could not possibly have any treasure (for example, waited by a particular throne around the corner from where people would drop off treasure). After calling out to them, raising lanterns, white flags, and using text chat, most ships sailed off. That at least is their right.

Other ships cruised up, never used their mics, and simply opened fire. Instead of returning fire, we repeated our question until we were sunk or managed to escape. It really didn't matter if we were sunk. Only a complete fool would have thought we had anything worth attacking for.

Other ships came over to our boat and them shot us to death and griefed our ship.

If you don't want to participate, fine. This is your right. We asked politely and were not provocative. To be griefed in these situations is really a good enough reason for bans. I know some people probably disagree, but a reasonable person would understand. There's just no sense in it. I wouldn't be asking for help if Rare didn't force me to.

Sure, I went to various throne points and just hoped someone would come along and say "hey are you doing thrones?" A few folks sunk us in their own weird attempt to.. I guess... keep us from doing thrones.

I was able to identify plenty of thoroughly evil people as well who chose to use their mics and spew racist rants and homophobic slurs. A new common tactic is to fly a certain flag and use homophobic slurs about what they will do to you. Those people were reported, but really it just shows what kind of evil is attracted to play the game as well.

In the end, it becomes about use of your time. Should I consider spending 60% of my time dealing with people who don't deserve the privilege of playing this game or even being on Xbox Live? Maybe it's better to just play something else. It's the kind of decision you imagine a lot of people are making.

Please note that I am only talking about people who cross a very obvious line. It is one thing to have a shoot first policy. It is one thing to ignore a ship's call when they are quite obviously trying to complete a cooperative objective (as required by Rare). It is pure evil to go sell you merchandise (as was allowed by those asking), come around the bend and use language that is against XBL TOS and come aboard and kill you. Those are just people without humanity. I don't really care what happens to them, they are not people.

But you don't have to comply. You can do whatever you want.

You do if you want the rewards. For overachievers who like to sail solo, why not just give them the option? How hard can that be?

  • @mo7airborne said in Again, I don't think the developers have a clue, just one thing for single players?:

The update has happened and once again you need to join forces with another crew to sit on all the skeleton thrones. I haven't met a friendly pirate to team up with after 60 hours. People I speak to about the game don't either. I couldn't complete the last dlc because it took 5 people, I can't complete this update! Just have something single players can complete. This isn't an MMRPG stop treating it like one, people will always attack first. Like at E3 when they said 1.5million friends made, no, 1.5million enemies!

The update was released at 8 am CST and I had all ten by 2pm CST. It took me two servers, and each throne was with a DIFFERENT CREW. I didn't even have to talk someone into following me around. If you do this within the first two days, I can't even begin to understand how it's an issue at all. I never got attacked by anybody once. Either you aren't trying to talk to other pirates very well or you aren't sitting in the right places.
Also, 60 hours isn't much in this game. If you have 60 hours of play time then you haven't played very much to help others or given yourself a chance to get helped. I did about 15-20 hours with Hungering deep over a span of two weeks. I was able to summon and fight the megaladon about 5 or 6 times. You need to put yourself out there

  • They make single player games.

This is not one of them.

  • @mo7airborne your experiences are not mine and many others.... yes some will shoot on sight but i have completed THD 9 times in the end and the skeleton thrones three times allready...

  • it hasn't even been 60 hours since the update dropped
also my first sloop i found was friendly, i found friendly ships left and right because i was like "Hey wanna do the thrones, and some achievements?" and they all said yes.

why do people have issues? because they dont talk to people.
    Thats the issue.
We have the megaphone now, USE IT

It's not that it would be hard, it's that it would defeat the purpose of what they want to do for this particular content. Since THD and the teamwork that came with it,I have noticed a drastic drop in the number of other ships that just shoot first, and that makes the seas more fun for all involved

As for the rewards, you can get the jacket and hat from doing the solo thrones alone, and if it's the commendation you're after, any real overachiever would do what is necessary, because let's be honest, you already did 5 thrones solo, another 5 by yourself isn't really worthy of an achievement. If you want a different achievement or commendation, you have to meet different requirements.

I get what you're saying, (And I personally, as an overachiever, have already finished the bilge adventures.) but the point I'm trying to convey is that solo players enjoy their game differently. There's rich experiences to be had in a different way. It's not about the difficulties at all, (because going solo can be a lot harder). Not everyone has the same experience, so I've started my own discussion on this matter a few minutes ago. But turned it up in a different light. If you want to check it out you can.

  • Some people lack the social skills. Its like they want to push one button and the game be over.

  • @mo7airborne Couldn't complete the THD either, no friendly crews around even after server hopping. And there's no incentive to do repeat trips to a given event for players who've been there, done that and rinsed and repeated. For the Thrones, I managed to get on a galleon that talked their way in to getting another galleon or two to help with the &*(#$ multi-crew event and then I went through and got the single events on my own.

Keep at it, but at some point people are going to loose interest in the event and you will be hard pressed to find anybody to get it done. Good luck!

  • @commandrew Actually they can push one button and have the game be over; Off button. Lack of social skills has nothing to do with it, for the most part.

  • @callmebackdraft That's way above average, I bet the developers can get the stats and it will be about 5% of players hit that many of completions.

  • @mo7airborne Agreed. For the past two days I've tried to find another crew to help with the big thrones. But no luck.

It was a stupid idea on Rare's part, impossible to finish missions, [mod edited] it.

  • Took over 20 hrs for me to complete THD social interaction had nothing to do with it I met 2 people with mics in that time. After a couple hrs this week I gave up I don't have time to waste.

  • @pure-rare It's a luck of the draw. You got lucky to be on a server that suited your needs. Others may have to server hop until they find what they are looking for to complete an event such as THD and Thrones. Chill out, not everyone is out to complain just out to point out that people are being people. I myself have helped 2 soloists (actually members of my own crew) and 3 multi-crew seekers of the thrones. I do it because people cannot sometimes find friendly players. Heck I and another crewmate (from another ship) were doing the 2 crew challenges and came across a sloop that was on their own trying to do the 2 crew thing. We all teamed up and went through it, although I had already done it several times. Best part is, we stop at shipwrecks and they help me in some way, either guard my ship, or dive with me to collect treasure and then they let me keep it. Win-Win. And nobody has back stabbed me. Which is nice of them to do so.
But glad you had a quick experience with it. Not all of us are lucky to have that. I was, I know that and I try to pass it on to other players so they can get it done. So go easy mate.

  • @onyx-wartooth Hmmm, I wonder if while in party chat people using the megaphone can still be heard? Or people using 3rd party VoIP programs these days. To me, the megaphone seemed hit and miss. A non-crew member was using the megaphone but their voices were clipped and such.

  • Maybe wait for ppl at the graveyard and ask if they would help you. I will help anyone that asks me to

  • @mo7airborne I keep thinking this would all get solved if they implemented a safe spawn you can choose to spawn into. We're no pvp of grief is allowed and that way anyone who spawns there can talk and play tabern games, decide who to sail with and creating a crew off people who don't have one yet.
I'm not saying you should be forced to spawn there, nor make them multiple islands... Just one. With more to do in the island like mini games to win some easy cash (little but easy) while you wait for another person to spawn there. Give us a reason to be in the outpost rather than just buying or selling.

  • @mo7airborne it's not too hard to find other crews to work with, just try talking to every crew you come across. i find it hard to believe you've never met a friendly crew, ... use tools available to communicate, the horn and music instruments make good peace offering utensils, as is handing nanners over. just remember that even generally nice pirates get bored after a while of questing, and want a little exitement...

  • @lord-danielw no island safe zones please! there is a safe zone in the game, the ship of the damned...i dont want the devs wasting time making tavern games i will never play even if forced to for limited time loot. there are already tools in place to find crews, so that isnt needed either...

  • instead, how about not-so-friendly fire, so we can have epic drunk tavern brawls, spawning you on your ship if you die... how about being able to kick players whom troll, or go afk, instead of brigging them, and they still get loot for nothing... how about being able to invite more friends to crew up... 4 is just not enough...

  • @tenableclown15 party chat overrides ingame chat, unless you switch ingame chat on through the xbox live party, on pc, using third party stuff isnt a problem, while using ingame chat.
the last thing about voices bing clipped...idk about that, seems to work just fine for me.

  • I'm not sure what I'm doing differently here. I killed Megan 4 times, and I've done all the skeleton thrones twice now. I never seem to have to hard of a time finding other pirates to do these things with. One trick I use is the ferry of the damned trick.

To anyone who doesn't know what this is:
    Step one: Kill yourself
Step two: Wait for someone else to die
Step three: Talk to the people who die and ask if they want to join you
    Step four: Profit

The reason this works so well, is when people get there they have no choice but to stay and listen, and they can't shoot you before you ask them! Try it. It may take 20 minutes, but it works!
