Solo slooping,,,,, a real problem.

  • Dear Sea of Thieves Team,

When I decided to solo sloop, I knew what I was getting myself into. The exhilaration comes from the fact that the odds are slim, the hazards are tremendous, and the seas are harsh. But eventually, it ceases to be a challenge and turns into an unjustifiable form of punishment.

Regardless of its original intent, solo slooping has become a popular playstyle. Whether by choice or need, a sizable portion of the player base relishes the experience of facing the oceans by themselves. It's not that many of us don't want a crew; we just can't locate one. It is possible that friends have moved on from the game. Open crew matchmaking frequently results in pairings dealing with folks who aren't up to the challenge or who don't want to participate in PvP. And that's all well and good, but it gives players like me no solid PvP choice and very little assistance.

Yes, solo PvP is permitted in Hourglass fights under equal circumstances, however that is just a small portion of the experience. Solo players face a severe and ongoing disadvantage in the open world. PvP stops being about skill or strategy and turns into a question of access when it becomes a matter of "do you have a friend or not." Furthermore, poor design occurs when enjoyment is impeded by accessibility.

Again, I just want to express my understanding that the game wasn't fully intended for player to play as a solo.

I want single gamers to be viable, not overpowered or unbeatable. At this moment, Despite their fervor for the game, many are abandoning it due to the difficulties and aggravation of solo slooping. I sincerely urge you to log in alone and attempt taking on a competent duo or trio if you still believe that solo slooping is well-balanced. It's a humiliating event that frequently ends before you get a chance to defend yourself.

I'm not saying that I have the answer. I have much more faith in the talented minds on the development team than in myself to figure out what works, whether it's minor mechanical tweaks, defensive enhancements, or even new tools only available for solo play. However, please understand that solo slooping is no longer a niche. It exists, it's expanding,

and it is in dire need of assistance.

I appreciate you reading. I adore this game and hope it gets better and more inclusive for anyone who is bold enough to go it alone.

    Regards,
    [A Concerned Solo Pirate]

  • As a solo myself I do not see the same problem.

There is a discord where you can actively tell people what kinda partner you are looking for to sail with.

If you go into PvP in the open world as a solo, you already know you are at a disadvantage, you can't turn around and complain you was disadvantaged.

If you are trying to do stuff, simply keep an eye on the horizon for dangers so you can respond, if you are trying to hourglass, it will match you with other solos. If you are actively seeking PvP? Well there's your problem you are putting hard mode on then complaining it's too hard and that the devs need to nerf it.

  • I just watched a few streaming solo players. Destroy 2 allies ships, took about 30min.

Pvp isn’t about skill. (There never is any). It about using what is around you (forcing ships into the sand near islands, forcing allies to shoot each other, etc.

Heck. Sloops themselves already have more advantage when it comes to combat. 2 shot chain for the mast for starters.

The only real disadvantage is if a say everyone on a galleon or brig decide to ram and board a solo. Boarding is the real kicker.

  • This is a skill issue. The game is working as designed.

Solo sloopers who are great at the game, know how to play solo sloop. If you are stacking for hours and then die to a larger crew in 5 minutes that is 100% on you. You are not playing solo sloop correctly.

You could be the top 100 TDMer solo slooping, you just can't win against a larger crew usually if they have any competence. You just don't have the firepower.

The problem are the players here. I get it, some people don't have anyone to play with or want to play sea of thieves. You should use discord or reddit to find other players to group up. Use the LFG on xbox.

I have a main crew and I solo sloop when I want to do certain commendations. I get chased sometimes, but I'm never stacking so much stuff that I'm going to reconsider playing the game if I sink.

This is absolutely a skill issue. Your options are get better, make more friends, or play differently on your sloop.

  • The Sloop has been insanely buffed already. How could they make solo play any more buffed? Playing Solo can never be as easy as with 4 people.

  • Solo Slooping works OK - but you need to set your expectations as to what you can do.

You are extremely vulnerable at stationary world events, you will more than likely be outnumbered at every PvP encounter.

    Play accordingly.

I avoid the Fort Of Fortune, FotD and playing a Reaper. Life is too short.

  • I’ve been solo slopping for nearly 7 years and I have a good grip on what I’m doing. Do I still sink? Of course I do. Am I asking for buffs to solo play though? No. I know having a crew helps, and I play with one often, but solo’ing is the best way to learn everything the games has to offer.
