Sea Dog Sanctuaries

  • Since the Sea Dogs trading company has disbanded due to the closure of the PVP mode, I thought it would be nice to bring back at least something to do with one of the best factions in the game.
My idea is to have 1 hideout/sanctuary in each region of the seas with the remaining Sea Dogs at them, in hiding and waiting until Lesedi returns to give them guidance.

    1. The quest starts at the Glorious Sea Dog's Tavern and has the player/s grabbing 1-4 crates of silver from the Tavern to distribute to different hiding Sea Dogs. Then they sail to whichever sanctuary is on the delivery instructions. At a random time in transit, ghost ships will appear on either side and start attacking. The player will have to face a certain amount of ghost ships depending on the crew size. Once the crew takes out all ghost ships and arrives at the island, they need to look for a bell. Once they find and ring the bell, the Good Boy dog will appear from the bushes. The player/s will follow the dog to a random hiding spot for a key, which will spawn some phantoms. The key can then be brought to the Sea Dogs Sanctuary on that specific island to unlock the door. The hideouts will have most of their structures buried with an overgrown hidden look to them, mixed with parts of ships built into them, much like the LSDT.
    2. Crews can partake in another quest that has players looking for clues scattered around the islands on information from the Ancients on old tablets regarding how to bring someone back, like DeMarco. Once these tablets are discovered, they must ring the bell and follow the Good Boy to the key and then go inside the Sanctuary to turn in the tablet.
    3. Inside the Sanctuaries will have a kitchen, places to sleep, different region feels, and a small makeshift tavern bar. If players drink the grog they will fall asleep. They will wake up inside the Damned Sea Dog Tavern, and it's had a decent expansion on the inside. In these instances, players from multiple servers can be brought together to fight TDM or FFA matches. The matches will go for 5-10 minutes and then switch the game mode with only 1 minute between each session. Crewmates can be assigned against each other in TDM and obviously FFA. Once the first grog at the sanctuaries have been drank, players can ask tavernkeepers at any Outpost for the Sea Dog Grog. When a player wants to stop playing, they can go to the tavern keeper and get an awakening grog that will allow them to wake up wherever they were before drinking the Sea Dog Grog. This would be a fun way to practice weapon based PVP in a quick TDM fashion with random players and/or our crewmates.
    4. The Sea Dog company levels could be brought back with new commendations and a company shop, or these quests could simply just be turned into short Tall Tales.

  • So you basically want to bring Arena back, but with extra steps.

  • I like the first and second ones, but it's already been said Arena is never coming back. I would like to bring back DeMarco also, but no to three at all. Sorry man.

  • @arthur79474 Thanks for the feedback.! This would not be Arena. No ships would be apart of this and no chests would be dug up and turned in, and it would take place inside an enlarged Tavern. I was mostly just thinking of a fun easy way to get repetitive swashbuckling in for players with little to no downside. It would still be on the Adventure servers as well. I just think that having a way to get some more practice in utilizing our weapons vs other players in a fast paced environment would be fun, because automatically respawning and being right there to continue fighting is much easier than dying, waiting on the ferry, and then having to naval your way back to get in a little more combat before repeating the process. No ranks, and no leveling, all just for fun. And being able to just go in as a crew and then fight each other would be fun IMO. I figured it was a shot in the dark tho.

  • @thamb0 arena won't be brought back as much as I wish it could be. But I agree that having some where to practice tdm would be great, I certainly would make use of this and I think any players that want to sharpen they're skills would too. But I think we'll have to forget about the ranks and cosmetics tho... Never finished my triumphant sea dog set so bit gutted

That could possibly work. I wish you were more clear on that in the original post.

  • @arthur79474 Ya, sorry. Looking back through my post I def see how I didn't represent that idea correctly. But yes, I am fully acknowledging that Rare will never bring back Arena, but I was trying to say that a TDM/FFA mode with just player weapons and infinite respawns inside the tavern or wherever would be awesome. I also think that no food or throwables should be allowed and you basically just run around and only fight. Also, if you dispatch 2 players, your health restores to full. So many times I have played with newer players and having a way to participate in a weapon wielding safe place would be awesome to teach them. I get that HG exists, but that really is more so naval over practicing with weapons over and over.

I think I can see what you meant by that. And yeah, we need a way to practice fighting with our weapons too. So a way that isn't really Arena by having it on the same servers as the main one could help. Just gotta figure out more on how it could work.

My idea is to have 1 hideout/sanctuary outpost in each region of the seas with the remaining Sea Dogs senior merchants at them, in hiding and waiting until Lesedi returns to give them guidance.
The quest starts at the Glorious Sea Dog's Tavern an outpost and has the player/s grabbing 1-4 crates of silver from the Tavern senior trader to distribute to different hiding Sea Dogs NPC.

There, I corrected it for you.

I'm not going to do the rest, but I think you see where I'm going with this. You literally described MA shipment deliveries with a Sea Dogs reskin. You also went on to describe other activities and mechanics already in the game, but merely with a Sea Dogs reskin.

You liked that faction, I get it, I'm sorry. But I don't feel what Sea of Thieves needs is more of the same activities with different factions, they need new activities. Frankly I was disappointed when they stopped doing adventures and community choice events. I felt that this live service content that pushed the narrative forward was healthy for the game, but ultimately was too much effort for Rare to maintain.

  • @lordqulex Oh no, I described something that had one of the three ideas shared being similar to MA shipment deliveries. I guess we'll have to scrap that and everything else that is similar in the game. Looks like the FoF should be scrapped since it's a reskin/addition of skeleton forts. Looks like phantom ships need to be taken out since it's too similar to skeleton ships. Looks like all the reskinned cosmetics need to be taken out. Who cares if it's a reskin? That's what Rare is known for. They literally reskinned the skull of siren song from the ashen skull. I was trying to be productive and come up with a way for new players to somehow pay homage to an old trading company in a few different fun ways. I will agree that they def need some new activities, but adding one thing that is somewhat similar isn't gonna be a deal breaker for me, and I am sure if Rare magically ever decided to venture into this idea which is already highly unlikely, they would hopefully add much more and fill out these quests to make them unique.

FoF is a reuse of assets, like using lego bricks to use different things. Yes, there is an argument that it's just a skeleton fort with an ashen lord tacked on at the end, and I'm absolutely sympathetic to that argument. But it is a longer and harder event than the sum of it's parts, and has a unique/desirable prize at the end. But, actually, yea, it's quite redundant. That's why the veil was so jaw dropping when it came out: new mechanics!!

Looks like phantom ships need to be taken out since it's too similar to skeleton ships.

They are slightly different, but not terribly.

Looks like all the reskinned cosmetics need to be taken out.

Agreed 100%!! I think they need to stop recoloring the eastern wind set for twitch drops and do something unique. I don't think you anticipated how much I'd actually agree with your sarcasm...

    Sadly true.

Completely agree XD. Ya mb, you can tell I really miss the Sea Dogs. I am just up for literally anything at this point that will bring the faction back in some way.

  • @arthur79474 Even if they only had us discovering the "hideouts" as part of a Tall Tale and then allowed us to FFA inside these hideouts would be awesome. I'm sure the backend might be difficult to allow us to attack our own crewmates inside certain sections of these hideouts or after drinking the grog and transporting to the Damned Tavern version, but it would be worth it.

Hope I'm not too late to reply, but I agree it would be nice to see the faction again, even if we don't get anything from the Arena days.

  • @arthur79474 Agreed. I made a newer post about them simply being brought back as a new "Tab" or section like how the Bilge Rats are, only the Sea Dog tab would be comms that focus on only PVP stuff.

  • @thamb0 Wait, what do you mean by the Bilge Rats having a tab? As in they're still a faction or something?

  • @arthur79474 that would be nice to bring them back as a faction, but I was pushing for at the very least a tab to click into like the Bilge Rats on the Pirate Log.. so you could have PVP commendations outside of HG to achieve.

https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/173364/sea-dogs-tab/3 This is the link to my proposal.

  • @thamb0 Oh that, that's a good idea. Thank you.
