Private Servers

  • I've been playing Sea Of Thieves for a while now and I am SO close to Pirate Legend, however, in the past couple of days, I've been trying to do a lot of voyages to get my reputation up. After hours and hours of sailing, killing, and looting, someone always just comes and sinks me and takes everything I've gotten. It's very annoying and I feel like it'd be cool to add Private Servers so that you can still join with your friends however at least increase the chances of skeleton ships spawning or have AI crews come for you so at least it's fair and you can set the difficulty level of the AI in the settings of the Private Server. This is just an idea as it's been pretty annoying to do a lot of work and then lose it in 5 minutes.

  • Ahoy @EYAtheEYA !

Rare appreciates your feedback, but their team have already given their thoughts on the topic of PvPvE and discussed it in their Podcast.

Unless there is a fundamental change to the game, Sea of Thieves will remain a Shared World Adventure Game with elements of both PvE and PvP.

You can also read an article by Joe Neate in regards to Private/Custom Servers here.

Dont stack unless you are confident you can defend it. Sitting on hours and hours worth of loot is asking for trouble.

  • @eyatheeya You may not want to hear this but if you play on a galleon or a brig then you will get to keep your loot more times than you will lose it.

  • Oh jeez, another one of u pirates who want to sale safely with no threat of other players. U know, people who want to hit pirate legend without PvP are the main reason its not impressive anymore. Pirate Legend is a title you need to EARN to wear proudly. And Im glad Rare understands that and will never make private servers a thing.

Yeah...we have all read that tripe. Thanks.

And when you get sunk by a skeleton ship and lose all your progress, how is the end result any different? It isn't.

So your proposed solution, doesn't actually solve anything.

Private servers are being tested by a certain group of players, however, there is/will be no progression on these servers if/when they are released.
PvE servers, will likely never be a thing, as it's not the vision for the game. You can read or hear about this vision in the links provided by others.

    Good luck on the seas!

  • Not a good idea. It would undermine the experience for more players than it would help. The reasons for this have been discussed elsewhere many times by SoT developers and players. For anyone genuinely interested in understanding why, just do a quick search, or review the links shared by several others in this thread.

  • I don’t like PvP but I hate the idea of private servers. The presence of other players always adds spice to the experience. Sometimes another crew totally sinks my plans, sometimes something fun happens, sometimes it’s just rando inexplicable encounters like the guy who rolled up in a sloop while I was doing an ashen lord and shot cannonballs at it until his ship sunk.

Dunno why people sail for hours with loot in dangerous waters. Sell, sell, and sell some more. A little gold in the purse is worth a lot of loot in the sea….

  • Private servers will come at some point, but without any gold or rep.

Yeah...we have all read that tripe. Thanks.

It's a shame the people crying over pvp didn't read the game description before downloading it.
Then we wouldn't have to read the tripe about private servers.

Best idea ever. Asked for a million times. Never gonna happen. Sad...and extremely stupid that they won't listen.

    NB4 anchor.

If it was going to be good for the game, they would already do it. Why can't people let this game be uniqe? Its uniqe because all kinds of players are thrown into the same server creating player interaction that you cant see in any other game.

Rare is not stupid, They just want to keep their game uniqe.

  • As @funnyqchen has put it so well for us, I will go ahead and drop anchor here. Thank you.
