As I promised, dropping some feedback in here.
Well, as you can probably see, not everyone is happy. I don't think anyone is content with the removal. But something about arena had to be done. Spawncamping, teaming, playing the rude cannon spam meta, all of that was notorious (no pun intended). Arena in current state just wasn't working. Better/ more prepared players would dominate lobbies, TDMs are sometimes just free wins/kills, as a galleon you could just spam mid deck shots for points and on sloop you could just rush the chest and win almost every time.
Arena would either have to be fixed (read: rewritten from scratch) or be removed. Rare went with the latter to move people working on Arena to Adventure to deliver us some new great content. I regret not playing enough arena when I had the chance, I'll try to do some grinds, help some of my friends, get carried by others, and cherish the time I've got left.
However, I think banishing all of the arena cosmetics to the shadow realm, and making them unavailable for newer/less arena playing players is a bit radical. I think that only the Victorious Sea Dog blunderbuss should be removed from shops. Legendary weapons should be moved to more legendary things, like completion of the new PL content you've teased :eyes:. However, the Sea Dogs as a faction should stay with us, not making them a giant, time limited thing that we were basically locked out without a warning. If someone wasn't doing arena, maybe because it was just not fun for newer players, or people who just like Adventure more, there's absolutely NO way they're getting 100% on sea dogs in a month. Weapon/Cannon kill commendations should be moved to adventure rather than removing them entirely. Wins/Top 3's, games played could be moved to sinks while flying a new Sea Dog emissary flag (Credit: DeplorableBeast).
PvP was, and should always be a big part of the seas, so don't take away the faction completely related to it. Arena despite its cons, was loved by many, and I too had a lot of fun playing my few games. Thank you for the memories, and waddle on.
