@program-pat We don't know what in store for the Sea Dog Tavern yet, but do hope it will be repurposed in some way :)
Saying Goodbye to The Arena
@musicmee could you perhaps slip in a note asking about the Set of Courage? That set was primarily awarded through Arena based events, but we only got 5 or 6 pieces of it. A skeleton in the Captains of the Damned tall tale is even wearing an unreleased Courage Jacket! I'd like to know if that set will ever be continued?
I understand your perspective and some of your reasoning for removing The Arena, but I don't believe doing this was imperative for the development team's ability to focus on Adventure. Rare has already made substantial changes to improve the quality of gameplay for players and limited the number of in-game reports by making updates such as removing text and proximity chat.
Arena is fine in its current state, apart from minor issues that could simply be fixed with a patch update. By removing Arena, you'll be removing, even though the minority, a side of your community. I don't think this is fair to those you have partnered up with such as the Notorious Arena League, and even though I'm not associated with them in any way, they have built such well-constructed communities that you're simply taking away from passionate players.
To whoever reads, thank you for taking your time to read my post. I know most of us Arena players knew this was inevitable, but I don't think this was the best decision that could of been made.
@d3adst1ck Oh for sure, this is a little bad timing!
But imagine if we didn't reward those Arena players that leveled up before the announcement... that would have soured those waters too!
The main fun I have in playing is in trying to 100% my commendations. When Arena is gone, will the commendations that I haven't completed be gone from my commendation menu? I hope that being unable to finish the old arena commendations won't prevent me from 100%-ing my commendations!
Anyone know anything about this?
@sealion3362 Drum of the Deep, Bone Crusher Sails and Forsaken Ashes Sword was a mistake that the team learned from. Hence them not doing that again.

@fullsets92 Correct!
We want to award the Good Boy to those that engaged with Arena during it's life span. While understand the frustration this is a way of us celebrating the most engaged Arena players and it would not be fair to allow people to grind for it at the end.
Don't equate "the most engaged Arena players" with "those that reached level 50 by a surprise calendar date"
I promise you the players that reached 50 early were the grinders.
The players that are at some random high level (because of actual enjoyable play) that can hit 50 by the end of the week are "the most engaged Arena players"@lizalaroo I'm still grinding to 50 regardless, but I want that Good Boy set. The deadline for the cosmetic, before anyone even knew it was going to be a thing, being cut off, is honestly just a huge kick in the cronch, if you know what I mean. When I played Arena, I was under the influence that the Good Boy cosmetic will never leave Arena, and suddenly they change their mind. Had I known from the beginning, I would have been much more eager to grind open crew Arena to get it, however, having no friends interested in Arena made it very hard to actually climb the ranks of Arena, because the mode is primarily played by half-decent to full on sweat crews.
@ghosstwalker Aye! It was a lot of good fun matey!
It was a great place to pratice and learn PvP and naval against much better players!
I would love, in the future, if there would be a way in custom servers to hop quickly in instant PvP.Lol to “keep the exclusivity” Its already exclusive. To those that got to lvl 50 before today.

** this is a way of us celebrating the most engaged Arena players .**
Or those who bought their levels from Duke/Larinna and barely played it.
I totally forgot you could even buy your levels, great point.
I never did because I literally just enjoyed leveling up by PLAYING THE GAME. (I have 10k dubloons, so it def isn't about the cost)
[Mod edit]
No more arena, no more: raise anchor, drop sail, grab pockets and shoot someone...
How are we supposed to practice PvP now ? No more practicing cannon aims without sailing around for hours getting supplies, or finding a proper target.
How am I able to find decent players on the SoT official Discord if they dont have the chance to become a LSD/TSD?What are we going to get back for a PvP kind of action if we got reaper emissaries running away for PvP ?
So many questions, I hope one of the devs can answer them.
oh man... this is very very sad. I know you addressed why the team hasn't been updating arena to save it, but to be honest, I still don't believe that's a good excuse. I know I don't have any right to comment on this because I don't know much effort keeping arena alive really is taking, but I wish there would be updates, even if it would take years. I'm not a super active arena player, but I believe that arena could have been a super fun part of the game if the right content was introduced. Possibly different game modes that would circulate every week. They wouldn't even have to be very big. For example, maybe there could be a game mode where only a certain cursed cannon ball was allowed, or maybe the only food you could eat were pineapples. I know this wouldn't save arena on its own, but I think it would definitely help more players to join and enjoy the experience.
To be honest, Sea of Thieves wasn't a game worth $60 during the first two years it came out. Don't get me wrong, there was a reason why I played it every night before I went to bed, but it was lacking in content. I want to say that arena is in a very similar situation- it may not be, but this is what I think from my experiences playing the game. Arena is super dry right now and there's not enough to do, just like the first couple years of Sea of Thieves. But Rare never gave up and they continued updating it. (I know this example is a little different because there was already planned updates to come further, but stay with me!) I full-heartedly believe that if Rare updated Arena to include more content that you could not just revive the lost game mode, but also pull in new players to the seas just because of Arena.

Even tho I disagree with the decision to close down the Arena, I do fully understand and support it. The only thing that bugs me is the Good Boy Set. I believe that, being 49 almost 50 at the time of the cutoff, I earned the rewards, I feel like no matter how much you've played, if you're not rank 50, you're as good as a rank 5 and it kind of ticks me a little bit, especially since I was planing on playing in Arena with friends this afternoon to get my rank 50 (I'm in NA-Est Timezone). To that I could think of 2 quick solutions:
1st - Give players until the 1st of February before cutting off, it would let players who want to get that set the bonus exp of the Community Day, if they swish to spend a part of it in the arena and not in the Adventure mode
2nd - Lowering it to level 40 or 45. Could be lower, to your own discretion, but anyone who has about those ranks played enough to be worthy of the set in my opinion
So yeah, these are my 2 suggestions! :D
I think this guy was onto something. This will get lost in the sea of comments. I know this wasn't and easy decision for you guys and people keep asking for an extension. But you guys have planted your feet in the ground and aren't moving anytime soon. I can respect that. But I think for arena rep 45+ you should give them the arena good boy flag. I am only arena 39 I don't deserve it but all these people were so close. I rarely see flags used but I think folks would be grateful for recognition for their arena efforts. No extension, no new set, just the good boy flag for arena 45. But I am excited for what's to come in adventure. Cheers to the arena and whats to befall the sea of thieves
Nah, if you haven't hit 50 yet you don't deserve it.
Nah, I don't agree with your comment. You probably already hit 50, so it doesn't bother you. For those of us who played arena all the time and still didn't hit 50, it's kind of frustrating. I remember sitting in the lobby for 30 minutes for a single game to start. I grinded my way to 45 and had I known that there was going to be a cutoff, I would have focused more of my time in arena.

There was no expectation that leveling up by a certain date would yield you exclusive rewards.
The only expectation being violated here is the one that we wouldn't suddenly find out we missed out on earning something.
Not really, they obviously didnt want people “hopping on the bandwagon last minute, and wanted to reward the players that actually played and supported arena these last few years.
Totally understand the decision, and I believe it's the right thing to do for the game.
But, man am I absolutely bummed about this one. I put off the grind for Triumphant Sea Dog for too long and probably won't be able to finish it :(
Time to light the fires and see how many cosmetics I can secure in the next 6 weeks :D
@indubitably1
Haha that is very true. People that hit 50 within a month are definitely some of the most dedicated players. This is just one more reason why I dislike the decision to remove Arena.@musicmee @meroviel I had a question!
Can we submit a support ticket to request a reset / wipe of our Sea Dogs reputation and related cosmetics?
Now that the mode and company is closing- I’d hate to be reminded of the commendations I didn’t unlock and be left with an incomplete cosmetics set. I would much prefer it to all be deleted off my profile.
I appreciate this is probably a weird request but hey, don’t ask don’t get! 😄
@ninja-naranja
Doesn't remove the sour taste of this sudden announcement and the arbitrary deadline.
