Woke up and heard the good news

  • Woke up and heard Falcor say that since there's no good way of matchmaking with a usable crew we will now be penalized for quitting if there's no crew or no USABLE crew available. Having one person on a galleon is NOT a usable crew and that's ABSOLUTELY NO reason to penalize the player because the Game Can't Get Enough people on the ship. This will leave some people with no option but to just sit and do nothing but fish or just watch WHAT IS NOT HAPPENING which is what we are stuck to do now because it takes so long to reload the game to get a new crew. It's really disgusting that you penalize the player but the software is in control of who's on the ship...

  • @kushdrifter Try to use their discord to find a team. The ingame matchmaking is a joke and will only give you a proper teammate(s) 1 time out of a 1000. Just like it is in adventure mode.

  • I've been in multiplayer games where quitting is expected and rampant and unpunished [Rocket League COUGH COUGH], and it is the number one reason why my experience is ruined time and time again. I'm happy to hear that quitters will be penalized. Don't want to be penalized? Then don't quit! Besides, SoT is different from other games, because you're still rewarded no matter what place you get. So, do your best, and get as high as you can, because the better you do the more you get rewarded.

  • Players should be further rewarded for finishing matches with a shorthanded crew.

Perhaps more of a buff in Sea Dog faction upon returning to the tavern.

  • Remember that some time soon, sloops and brigs will also come to the game, so that issue will be solved.

I love how people only talks about the penalty, and not the rewards, or the skill based matchmaking, crossplay opt out, sloops and brigs, new point system...

  • @eggamer13 because crossplay opt-out means nothing to good players. Skill based matching is eh, because who does it base the skill on with a group of friends with different skills. Sloops and brigs have always been expected since its trailer!

  • @kushdrifter can we all calm down, they are looking into how they are going to implement it...

Nothing is set in stone yet, falcore is just sharing the news and speculates on implementations...

Furthermore, It is not going to just punnish people willy nilly if they leave a match once, this is to take care of repeat offenders

  • @kushdrifter
Penalties for quitting matches are a very common thing in Arena style multiplayer modes and should have been implemented from the start.

When a player quits, it makes the experience worse for everyone else in that match. The more a player does this, the more they should be penalized.

There will probably be a rough adjustment period, which could have been avoided if Rare had implemented this from the start. But it should quickly settle down, especially if this is implemented alongside a useful ranking system for matchmaking. As a player gets better, they would hopefully be more likely to match up with better crewmates and there would be less desire to quit.

I wonder if it might also be helpful for the ranking system to take into account how much a player quits such that it matches quitters up with other quitters.

  • Entered Arena yesterday with 2 friends ( so we were 3 in a galleon), all the ships dissapeared except 1, so basically we were just 2 galeons competing against each other, so basically 24 minutes 4 vs 3 cuz the game didnt find ANYONE to join us.
Then the match finished and we had been waiting 15 minutes to let the game find another match...so.. we were in a room full of kids shouting and laughing around while the game was matchmaking "something"... well... IT DIDNT FIND MORE PEOPLE TO PLAY. At this time, we were just tired of hearing thoose kids screaming while waiting so we just left the arena. We were not gonna wait to be left against crews of 4 who clearly had advantatge on us.

Arena is cool when you just want to play something but you dont want to go around on the seass... but taking a look on how is the Arena at the moment... I wouldnt even bother to try to enter again. I dont know how they want to penalize people who leaves the match, when players are trying to hold a boat of 4 people being all alone. I mean if you already enter all alone and spend all the match ALONE, why is the player's who has been left alone's fault! Its not his fault!

Anyway... we need some control on people who just enter to trol or leave the matches, but thats not the option when the matchmaking doesnt even work to make a Match balanced. If there is not that much people playing, just put "Sloops arena", instead of empty Galleons.

    Yeeehaaa!!
Spreaad the curse in the seaaas!

  • I just hope I do not keep getting paired with level 0 IQs--who are oblivious to what is happening. I do not even care if people are good at PvP. I care that they do not have the basic understanding of how to play. I just played another session of Arena with randoms, and it is the most frustrating thing.

  • @shut-ur-mouth

Frustrating indeed. Gaming should be fun..
Now your to be penalized because you wanted a fun game, and had to leave a frustrating situation to try to seek one.

Not an PvP nor arena fan myself but this doesn't look like an SoT issue. I bet that games like Dota and or LoL have this issue aswell when you don't join as pre-made.

  • Don't like playing with random players? Then don't! Play with your friends instead! Don't have those? Then push through the pain to find some!

I have only played about 5 matches in Arena since its release, and of those, I only placed 1st place in one and had a good crew in at least 2 - so I can't possibly believe that every single match is bad. Persevere, find those you do like to play with, and add them!

If you don't want the frustration, then find them in Adventure mode, where there's far less PvP and more cooperation.

You can also purposefully look for good players using LFGs and Discord.

This is not a game problem. It's a YOU problem.

Played a lot of solo in League of Legends, sure it happens. However, its better than the alternative. Being forced to play a game a man down before they implemented the early game match reset was horrible. Some matches were winnable, but it was a case by case scenario that was rarely fun.

Sometimes accidents happened as well, but that was why punishments scale. First leave was 5 minutes, if you dodged again, that became 10 minutes, I believe it became like 20-30 after that (Never got that high). If you became habitual with it temporary bans followed. If you had an accidental leave or were forced to leave early by IRL things, it wasn't that big of deal on the punishment side, as long as it wasn't habitual. Their was lee-way for that by design.

However, we can't quite compare SoT to League in this sense, because Riot games have a more elaborate report system. They give options for reporting from feeding (Leagues equivalent of intentionally losing), afk, and language. Throw in that it is one team versus the other. Having a more off sided match is much more noticeable when their is only one team to play against. SoT has the benefit of having multiple teams.

  • I do not have a dedicated crew and no way to really obtain one. Discord, Twitter & Facebook have all been disappointing Avenues to find usable crewmates. Yet I have been on since release and I'm still just at level 40 across the board "Obviously No PL" and I have severely struggled to get this far, while dedicated crew people just skimmed right on to Pirate Legend. My biggest problem is that I'm a father of four but my office is at home so my hours of play is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. est. while I'm working. That doesn't leave much hope for a crew. 90% of all gameplay is me alone or me and one other player on a galleon. There's no reason for me to try Adventure Mode "I don't think" because I'm not sure I could achieve anything solo as I will get to board too fast with no-one to joke around with.
I will do any and everything I can to help out if someone can let me know what to do I'm very tech-savvy and have no issues helping I just don't know what I can do.
I only bought me and my kids Xboxes when we seen this at E3 and I'm about on the giving up end of waiting.
What can I do to help with anything?

Thanks for letting me know that this is solely a me a problem. If you get a chance can you let everyone else know with the same problem that this is only something that I brought upon myself... thank you sir...
