Problems with PVP

  • I've been playing the game for barely a week and i really do enjoy most of it. But the open PVP system need to be changed.

I understand that you are supposed to be a pirate and stealing goods and raiding other ships is part of the experience. But not everyone enjoys PVP and just want to play the game for fun without having to worry about losing all the hard work they put into gathering treasure. Unable to go sell it because some better player(s) came along to kill them and steal it all.

I'm sure from a Development and technical standpoint it wouldn't be the easiest but its far from impossible to put in a system to let players who don't like PVP, or who just want to play casually, avoid PVP.

The obvious solution is Private servers. But i don't think that would be a great idea. The community would just be spread out across hundreds of private servers avoiding the need for the main servers.

Maybe use the Flags. have it to where if a player is flying a certain flag they cant be damaged or deal damage to other players and their ships. Flying this flag could also only let players who are a member of the Crew or Alliance board the ship.

This game is really amazing. With beautiful graphics, immersive game play that encourages teamwork, and so much more. Its a shame that it gets ruined by such a poor PVP mechanic.

  • @unseenrouge1029 poor PvP mechanic? There are such a many ways to fight with other players. Yesterday we sunk whole server. 7 different crews tried to steal our treasure. It was truly hard work for our crew but we managed to win every encounter. Also there aren't always PvP when you meet other ship.

PvP is okay, just try different appraoch

  • Learn how to avoid other crews by being prepared and keeping your head on a swivel. It's not that hard once you get used to it. Also, turn in your loot often so that when you do lose it (it's not a matter of if, but when), it won't be that big of a loss.

Sorry mate but you bought a shared world pvpve game.
The devs have said no to pve servers many times. They implied that a private server may be in the future but expect to gold or reputation.

I see u are new. I suggest you watch tutorials and get better at defending yourself. Once you learn how to play well, you can avoid all pvp if you wish. Easy peasy.

Join a clan from the forums and watch YT vids for help

The obvious solution to avoid PvP would be to avoid the PvP.
No one says that when a ship is on the horizon u have to wait untill they attack u.

And your flag idea altho i like u actually put thought in it. In my opinion wont work. I got loot so i put up that flag and now im playing boat simulator with some booty.

Or i use flag to show im a PvE pirate. Roll up since u expect me not to do damage or PvP and now u are unaware and i drop flag and bye bye your ship.

Also to add to this. The game is not breaking by PvP. It is PvEvP as intented, as its ment to be by Rare. This kinda gameplay is uncommon and makes SoT unique in its ways. It is what makes this game strong in my opinion. What will break the game is taking out the PvP and make private PvE servers. This is not what is SoT.

My 2 doubloons on the matter.

You are about to get bombarded by other players, you might think we are all telling you to "git gud" but its not like that.

This is an open world PvPvE, game and while you might think its a bad mechanic, a lot of us don't.

The problem with posts like these and belief's like yours is that they always come from someone who is not use to PvP in any gaming format, or is completely inexperienced and a rookie at the game.

You seem to fit the bill of rookie.

Now why is this a problem and why do we hate posts like these? Well because players who haven't even really learned HOW to play the game are coming here and trying to suggest a way to avoid a pivotal mechanic of the game.

Another reason why we hate posts like these is that almost every single player and I do mean this, eventually gets turned around as they learn more about the game and learn to let go of their fear and frustration. A lot of players who used to be on the side of "No PvP" or "PvE servers" have turned around and have started defending PvP.

Its all about experience which you need to spend more time to gather.

I know you are frustrated but the thing is, the game has no time limit. There is nothing that is game changing or game breaking that you need asap to compete with other players. There are no levels, there are no skills to gain. Its just coin and cosmetics. Each of which you will slowly earn. As you get better you will start to earn more at a time.

Take your time. I can't stress this enough. There is no need to rush.

"BUT I JUST LOST HOURS OF WORK AND 10K's OF GOLD" - Broski, we've all been there. Every single one of us started as a rookie. We've all lost gold, we've all been sunk. We learn from it.

    Learn to love this game.

"But I do love it!" - No, you like parts of it, not the same as loving it.

Take your time, let go of that anxiety about losing your loot or sinking. Go out, PvP, and learn.

    Happy sailings man.

    I firmly disagree.

    1. Start playing in a group with seasoned pirates that can show you the ropes and help you understand what you can do to avoid confrontation or how to deal with it; the choice is yours.

    2. Keep a positive attitude and LEARN from your defeats and relax a little while staying hyper vigilant regarding any ship you see on the horizon. The PVE in this game is ultra EZ mode, with that in mind the difficulty level comes from the PVP element. The better you are at detecting an enemy ship the more profitable your voyage will be.

    3. When you cant quite work out how to deal with a situation, come to the forums and ask. Like all games there is a method that can be utilized to deal with just about any situation PVE or PVP. Just ask, there are tons of really good posters who can help you get by..

    4. Do not take advice from people who complain or do not provide answers, instead seek out the positive people who have a solution; the rest of the opinions that claim "it can be done" are typically garbage, so ignore them.

    Good day sir!

    Let's review.

You've been playing for less than a week. You're still learning the game and aren't very good at it yet. You're frustrated because you want to play the way you want to play without having to invest the time necessary to improve. So instead of taking the time and effort to learn the game and develop the skills to become successful, like all the rest of us have done, you come to the forums and insist the game is "ruined" and needs to be changed.

The answer is no. The answer will always be no.

If you want help learning the game and improving your skills, there are many great folks here who will be happy to help you. Just ask. That's what reasonable people do when they start a new endeavor and need some help getting started. What they don't do is tell everyone they've been doing it wrong and try to change the rules for their own benefit. That's asinine.

When you get beaten in chess, do you complain about the game being too hard and try to change the rules?

  • @unseenrouge1029
Rare has said no safe zones or modes a while ago. There are plenty of posts like yours, so you don't have some new great idea. Also, another tip is to sell often so you can't lose 2 hours of loot. Because pve can do that to you too, and somehow that's not a problem for yoj
