Suggestion: Ship wear due to duration of voyage

  • If, depending on the duration of the trip, the colours would fade, the sails would get cracks, stains and patches, the wood would look increasingly rotten, I would find that great...

  • It's a fine and creative idea, but what does it really add to the game in terms of gameplay enrichment? I get that it improves the immersion, but I think the developers and we/us as a community should focus more on bug fixes/reporting and quality of life improvements instead of aesthetically pleasing features.

Lol im the opposite. I get mad when my ship gets a whole and it has some rickity plank on there.
I wanna be able to pay to get my ship truly repaired without losin all my stuff on it

  • I like the idea. You could bring the boat in for barnacle removal. Over time, your hull could collect barnacles causing drag on your boat and slowing you down.
Yeah, there's obviously a waiting list for development, and the devs will have their priorities (bug fixing being at the top) but if they're gonna support the game for 10 years they'll get to the bottom of their dev list eventually and be able to bring stuff like this in.

  • The cosmetics would be enough for me.

If you want to extend your playing experience, how about that: a torn sail could produce weaker propulsion, a rotten hull would be increasingly leaking and the ship would be a bit more cumbersome due to worms and shells.

You could have your ship renovated for money. Or show everyone that you are an old sea bear, who even with rotten planks shows newcomers what an anchor turn is...

Not needed imo, our boat at the end of a journey is always full of holes (as it should be), not much to be seen of the actual paintjob.

EDIT: If you don't have that you have not been fighting hard enough! j/k ;-)

Hehehe, that's exactly what I replied once, too. The counter-answer was:
"Well, that applies to 99% of all the suggestions discussed here, so if you think so, stop writing here and don't bother the developers with ideas." :)

Fair point, mate. But I think the game is not in a state yet where we could discuss these kinds of features. I am not saying they're not relevant or trivial, it's just that I have been posting support tickets since the game launched and still lots of issues persist within the game. I think it would a shame if the developers are chasing to implement requested ideas before fixing current issues, only because the community demanded "minor" features.

  • @lt-swag-johnson Basically, I think like you. Since I can't estimate the cost of the idea at all, neither development nor operation, I don't know, I rely on Rare to take suggestions from the forum and sort them accordingly.
Imagine it would be relatively easy to implement and a trainee could even do it - but nobody would come up with the idea until you come along and say, couldn't you have this or that? And if not, well, then just not.

Nevertheless, I prefer fixing those zombie bugs - they keep returning again and again.
