Cargo Missions Do Not Count Toward Merchant Voyages Commendation

  • Welp, today I confirmed that despite buying the Voyage from the Merchant Alliance, the Voyage from the Merchant Alliance does not count toward the commendation for Voyages for the Merchant Alliance :)

I'm not sure if this was ever explained as to why, but, I'd love to see this changed.... with all of the other tweaks going into Merchant Alliance missions... this seems like it would a great time for it!

  • I think it doesn’t count because technically the cargo voyage ends as soon as you collect the cargo. They probably just don’t want us trying to boost merchant xp by buying the voyages and not turning in the cargo after you pick it up. I learned this when I tried to cheese the reapers mark commendation with cargo runs. Doesn’t work either.

I considered that, it's just that it's misleading to buy a Voyage from the Merchant Alliance vendor and... not have it account as a Voyage for the Merchant Alliance!

But, I'd be down for changing how they work... Just make them only complete once they're delivered. Honestly in what universe is a cargo run complete at the moment the goods are picked up anyway?? :)

  • @Lethality1 Your suppose to do cargo whilst doing other things. Animals, gold ect

That doesn't make any sense. These are merchant voyages in and of themselves. Why would I have to do them... with other merchant voyages?

It's really not the right user experience for them to be sold as a voyage from the Merchant Alliance and not have it count toward progress of Voyages from the Merchant Alliance.

  • @lethality1 they can’t do that, because will happened the same as the animals cages been lost in battle etc... that you can’t complete that voyage anymore . So If you get sunk and lost half of your cargo run, the voyage will be incomplete.

I was thinking in a chapter 2, to deliver the cargo, but the same problem remains.

  • @lethality1 lol just checked and apparently i have done 0 merchant missions despite having completed the devils roar legendary cargo runner commondation lol yikes

Hmm, yep that is a weird artifact of the way the voyage system works. Even the other ones, "getting" the item is the completion flag, not "delivering" the item. Hmm.

But there's still a state of completion when you pick all of the cargo up, same as skulls or chests, so why can't it just count then?

I have done animal merchant missions flying the reaper mark flag, It does count. However, I have been ambushed and had to cancel missions because I lost the animal crates. For that, I suggest starting an animal mission and collect all the crates. Abandon the mission and immediately start a new one using the crates you got from the first mission. You may not have enough or may have too many crates but you can still collect the crates for the current mission if they are lost in battle

  • @lethality1
IMO there side quests, a simple grab and move to the next island is hardly a voyage and more of an errand in my eyes.
I like to pick up cargo, then animals and go along like that. The cargo can look after itself with enough water in the Hull so your focus is on the pigs ect

  • @lethality1

yeah i always thought this was dumb especially the way the rum runners was presented
you can only place one voyage down period so you place a rum runners down
then a voyage but want to do another rum runners you can't and when it is being presented as you can when in reality it is opposite
it always struck me as a bit silly

  • So, on top of this... it seems they DO count toward the merchant voyage MILEAGE commendations...

This has to be an oversight one way or the other?

  • @lethality1, miles sailed while on a cargo run don't count either. So now I've got to grind out 750 miles doing animal runs. Another annoying thing is there's no chance at buying a voyage where you take crates of cannonballs, wood, or fruit.

  • @eques-inedia they do count for mileage but only in the period between placing the voyage and collecting the cargo. To maximize mileage you want to place another cargo voyage down after collecting the cargo, that way you gain mileage while you are sailing to deliver the goods.

  • Cargo runs need to be changed to a fully secondary quest like Tall Tales. They can be placed alongside any main quest and run like normal.

They dont need to count towards Merchant voyage completion as a secondary and other factions could also get similar types as well.
