Combat and Mobility Enhancing Tools

  • I've had a few item ideas that I think would be cool and add a lot to Sea of Thieves without adding too much at all. These items would enhance both ship and close quarters combat and make casually exploring have much more mobility options. I had a couple hours this morning so I did up a couple poorly done photoshops. (with nothing but in game items :D)

    The Big Hook

    This would act as a tool and take a slot on the item radial wheel, it would could maybe have a 10 ft. reach and would latch to any solid surface. The point of this tool is to transfer downward momentum into forward momentum and add another option to stealth play other then ladder camping.
    This tool would require good positioning and accuracy to use effectively, colliding with other solid objects will kill your momentum and hitting the ground will disable the hook.
    You can also use this tool to latch to enemy ships, giving stealthy players another option. Just time your hook right, there will be a sound effect for your hook clanging off the hull. A well placed gunshot will also release your grip!

    Blower

    This monstrous object would take up a weapon slot, it's a crank operated air cannon requiring 5-6 seconds to fully charge. As its cranked the air sack fills with air under your characters arm expanding and warning other players. This "weapon" would deal zero damage and just "boop" enemy players off your boat and stagger multiple skeletons at once.
    The cool thing about this weapon is you can use it on yourself! Just aim down and use it to gain height, almost like a homemade geyser. (not as powerful though)
    For balance I think once stowed or swapped the bag should deflate, making the player have to re-crank. This would require the player to have to prepare and make it so it couldn't be spammed unless the whole crew sat and cranked for 5-6 seconds.

    Glider

    Definitely the least complicated out of the three and would take up a slot on the item radial wheel. We all know what a glider is at this point, the important thing is that they aren't to ridiculous and balanced to Sea of Thieves.
    I don't think you should be able to glide too much faster then your character can run, getting shot should disable the glider and strafing should be hindered in air.
    Other than that the hardest thing would be how much vertical distance do you drop over time, which is just down to testing.

    I think these three items used together would add so much to the game. Anyway thanks for reading and let me know what you think :D

  • The Big Hook - Okay, we need something like that.
    Blower and Glider - I don't think this fit in a pirate game.

  • @targasbr ya the big hook's definitely the best out of the 3, the other 2 may not fit but they would be fun! I do agree though, they don't quite suit the world but they can always inspire other more Lore suited items to be made with similar features.
