Ahoy there,
The vast majority of cases are fixed by the below steps:
Please follow each of them according to the list, including the last section.
-Try another antivirus / firewall
-Change your NAT to open
-Open up official Xbox Live ports
-Turn off IPV6 in the router settings
-Turn off Teredo on selected routers
How to get the update:
1)Press the Windows Key
2)Type in Check for Updates
3)Select Check for Updates
The update you need to fix your grey screen crash on launch is KB4088776 shown below. If this update is present download, install and finally reboot your system for the update to take affect.
If the update above is not present it is most likely due to the update only just going live. It should appear on your PC very soon! So try again soon.
Other Solutions:
Fix #1
Login to Windows 10 with a local Microsoft Account.
Fix #2
Go to the below link and save / run the tool. Follow the on screen instructions to troubleshoot / fix your issue.

1)Press Windows key + R.

Type "wsreset" (without quotes) into the Run dialog box that appears, and press Enter.

Complete a system reboot.

Log back in to the Store with the authorised gamertag and attempt the download again.
Fix #4
Uninstall and reinstall the game.
- Press the windows key
- Type in Sea of Thieves
- Right click and uninstall the game
- Install the game again from the Windows Store app
Fix#5
Right click the clock on your start menu
Select Adjust date/time.
Untick then retick Set time zone automatically.
Reboot your PC

- Press Windows key + R
- Enter the below command.

- Once the process finishes please find the SeaOfThievesErrors file from the desktop and attach it to this ticket.

- Type in dxdiag
- Run the dxdiag
- Select Save All information and attach the dxdiag file located on your desktop to this ticket.
