Saving system

  • I started the game recently, but I have noticed very early the game doesn't save the loots (banana, plank and different types of cannonballs) and the rowboat after I disconnect and reconnect. I hope you will change something.

  • That's the point of the game

  • Its more like an Arena or Matchmaking game, but without any time limitations and a huge map with several stuff to do beside PvP.
It's a PvPvE Arena that you allways join fresh from the start and then do whatever you like and build up some ressources, treasures, do pvp...
Next time you join the world it starts again all over.

I allways compare it to a open world sandbox shooter game, but with a big PvE Aspect to it.
There is no leveling other than reputation to unlock cosmetics.
So nothung to build or level up here in sense of any meaningfull progression (and thats exacly what i like here the most) and therefore we don't need any save system.

  • Dont go thinking this will change.

There can be a correlation between power and time spent on a server.
Items like powder legs and cursed cannonballs can be overpowered if hoarded and saved.

This is not some MMO wannabe game.

  • @fireman22222 I believe it is intentional so that you go off exploring the islands as you pass them.
I feel if it did remember your stuff you wouldn’t need to get of your ship as much to run around.

Maybe they could find a balance by increasing the amount of items you start with or find in barrels around the world.

  • @fireman22222 I doesn't need to save your loot because that would cause problems. However, I really needs to save voyages. Very few people can commit 3+ hours to a game nonstop. If we could carry on from where we left off that would be a huge QoL improvement.

  • @barnabas-seadog I tought about your comment and I changed my mind after I read your comment :)

  • Every time you enter the game you got a "new world". I think this happen to balance the gameplay, like @Barnabas-Seadog said, and i fully agree with him.

I doubt it's to balance the game. It's most likely works this way because it's significantly easier to design(otherwise we wouldn't have to re-color out ship every single time we started a new session). As for whether it's more balanced, I would say it's probably leans towards less balanced than a saved resource system. Reason being that if this game has mostly all new players that quit after their first session, then not saving makes some sense. However, if players play more than one session then it is more "balanced" to save loot, since everyone will be starting with more resources(not to mention how much of a QoL improvement it would be). The current system of not saving loot is in favor of players that "no-life" the game and play for long sessions. Also, Rare doesn't care about balance. If they cared about balance you wouldn't have a game that forces xbox players with a controller to play against PC players with M&K.

edit: just to clarify. i'm not talking about "loot" such as gunpowder, chests, etc. I might have misinterpreted your comment, so sorry if I did.

  • @betsill I agree this is easier to design, so much easier, and that could be the reason, but rare really wants a balanced game, so much so that we do not see items bought with money, in fact, we see only cosmetics. I play on Xbox and PC, many of my friends too, the advantage is too little to complain in crossplay. Nothing that a well-trained Xbox pirate cannot do.

  • Progression is done in-session. So in each playsession you progress by aquiring cannonballs/ banana's / planks and cursed cannonballs / a rowboat etc.

If this were to be saved you could savescum with this because it would enable you to quickly disconnect/ quit before you sink to save "your" loot.

If you have frequent disconnects I suggest checking a few things, raise a ticket try to find our where the disconnects happen. I play the game a lot and I've never had a disconnect outside of the whole almondbeard debacle a while ago (I'm still scared of my ship taking off in flight) so I can attest to server stability.

Having friends also helps with disconnect problems, if you're in a crew you're less likely to lose it all by a random disconnect.

Rare says they want a balanced game but looking at what the actually do says they are either hypocrites or don't understand game design and what makes a game "balanced".

Idk what to say to this. In the current year if you don't understand the advantages M&K have over controller I don't think there's anything I can say to convince you. Just know that it is an unarguable fact that M&K is superior to comptroller in essentially every way, but especially in FPS games.

  • I think it would be interesting if the progress of the game were to focus precisely on the evolution of the ship. This one when destroyed or damaged can always be repaired and can be evolved by adding improvements that are maintained in time but that you can lose by being destroyed and having to buy another ship.

As for the loot, I think all barrels and chests have a limit so it's up to you as a pirate to save and maintain this loot, not the fact that you have to restart the game.

I think it has a lot of potential but even adding upgrades or some kind of evolution to the ships the game would always be balanced as nothing prevents two ships from joining to destroy an upgraded one and in fact I think a smaller and less upgraded ship could always destroy the larger ship if these pirates have more ability to do so. I don't see where the unbalance would be when no one barrel does more damage than another nor is there a better weapon than another, just a ship with improvements that you have achieved over time thanks to your ability to navigate and to find treasures and defend them from other players.

Yes, the ship would be better than other players but it would also be more tempting to assault it and therefore more difficult to maintain. The whole game would remain balanced and the players would have a greater sense of evolution and immersion.

  • you get at least 40 balls, 15 planks and 15 bananas at the start... just be happy you don't start with 0.

  • @bumbumbac but please do you want the game to improve and evolve or is this just about being a conformist?

I can't understand that proposals are made and there are always people who want everything to stay the same when it's obvious to everyone that there is room for improvement to achieve more playability.

  • @bumbumbac This game could offer much more than what it offers now, I love the game, but currently has a number of errors in the gameplay that sincerely makes it extremely tedious to play.
The lack of a system for saving progress, does not save the personalization of the boat and a long etc make it almost unplayable ... If even the game is because as I said before, I'm passionate, but I hope that some day they realize these great mistakes ...
