Pirate Legend commendations

No one should get upset that there will be some Pirate Legend content added in Shrouded Spoils. Everyone can become a Pirate Legend so no one is excluded.

Commendations is just the very beginning of what is needed in content to do after becoming a legend. This means there will be a little more waiting for those that put the time in on the sea. The more every type of pirate gets some love, the better things are for everyone when the sea is full of ships with lots of happy pirates still sailing.

The fact is, there's a group of "hardcore" type of people who NEED those Nintendo-difficulty commendations to stick around and grind for. There's nothing wrong with that.

Some reboot of the old commendations would be perfect for this. For example, the old 1000 Castaway chests title was hard to grind for without enlisting the help/quests of a lower level player. Same with the Foul skulls. It still makes no sense to me why those tiers were taken out, rather than just adding more tiers in the middle.

I just want a title that accurately portrays my game experience

These commendations should definitely be only available for legends. But considering the fact that non-legends can gain Athena reputation and unlock the Ghost cosmetics, it won't surprise me if some of the upcoming Legend Commendations can be unlocked by legends as well.

I am hoping that these commendations are more than "complete x amount of Athena voyages". Looking at the other factions I think we can expect the following to be unlocked by all players:

• Complete x amount of Athena voyages.
• Purchase x amount of Athena voyages.
• Hand in x amount of Chests of Legends.
• Sail x nautical miles on Athena voyages.

@x-crowheart-x What I meant is that say you have a group of 3 people. 1 is a PL and the 2 are not. If there is 0 reward for the 2 other people then 1 PL could end up having to do the stuff solo.

I'm just saying there should at least be some sort of reward such as gold or rep for a faction for the other non-PL people. I just don't want to see friends split up because of it.

Thank you for the clarification. I would think that friends would still stick together and help each other out.

My spouse and I sailed this past weekend with a friend. They do not get to play much. They wanted to finish earning all the doubloons and commendations from sailing the Devil’s Roar. We had already done so.

So, we sailed together to help him. Having earned the things he was seeking and being Pirate Legends we just earned gold. We are not hurting for gold either. We still had a lot of fun sailing together.

Same happened to him in reverse when he popped in before that time, to sail in an Athena voyage with us. He did not get credit towards completing voyages. He got a lot of gold and some Athena rep. Again we had a lot of fun playing together.

The reward system is not perfect in every situation on the sea. There still needs to be rewards for all levels of pirates. Trust me you will see when you become a Pirate Legend. Hopefully those that have come before can make it better for others by calling for more things like this.

While sailing together it may not give everyone exactly what they want, there is still something to be had by all. The true, better reward should be coming from the fun playing together and helping each other with the time spent on the sea.

@averageheroz What are you not understanding about this? I'm not saying non-PL should get the same rewards, I'm not saying that non-PL should be included in the new content.

What I am saying is that if you are the only one in your social group able to do these new commendations and there is 0 reward for your friends. You may be doing it alone.

Example: Say the commendation is go find something in the world. And this thing gives you a PL commendation. There will be 0 reason for your friends to want to help you if they are just sitting there getting nothing. If it's do 100 athena's then okay, your friends get stuff in the meantime.

I'm just asking to keep in mind not to split up friends groups. And keep in mind that everyone on the ship may not be a PL so they shouldn't be punished in a sense. I'm not asking for non-PLs to get the new content..

I am a Pirate Legend. My friends are not.

I have no idea what they are adding. I'm asking them to keep in mind not to make it so it segments the community into PL's doing there commendations and non-PLs doing there rep grind.

Make sure the PL commendations grind also gives gold or rep if non-PL plays with you.

I don't want to keep going back and forth. You seem to read every 3rd word I type or something.

Imagine siting on the thrones was only for PLs.
A non-PL would not want to help you do it.
So the commendations should be for things that give some sort of tangent reward. Like gold.

We don't know what they are adding.

I'm saying not to make it something like sitting on thrones.

If it’s exclusive pirate legend content, and you have non pirate legend friends who won’t help you, then there are tons of pirate legends out there to do the exclusive content with. That would actually make more sense. Content only pirate legends can do and reward from. That’s been something a lot of us have wanted since they announced pirate legend was the beginning of end game.

@sytoki My fear is that my friends will just stop playing if I abandon them for other online players.

I just hope the new PL content gives gold. It really just comes down to that. If it gives gold then I can get them to play too.

@jeremep Time to make new friends then. I’m sure the pl commendations are probably gonna be something that is done next to regular voyaging, I don’t think it will be “complete x Athena’s” but I think that the commendations will not separate you from regular gameplay. That being said, I sincerely hope they start to add rewards only pl can do, like a new skull fort with a chest of legends inside.

The saddest point this week was when I was in a session where a guy hit pl and after about 5 minutes of peering around at what he unlocked he asked “Is that everything?” They need to add a lot more content for pl, every content drop should add a little something more for us to show off to others our hard work.

I think what will happen is..
Some of the unchanged commendations from the other factions I.e. Hunter of the cursed captains, will move across to Athena and become kill x amount of captains on Athena voyages.

As @Lt-Swag-Johnson said, the standard compete x amount of voyages and purchase etc.

I'm sure non PLs will obtain the quotas too. However any rewards/titles will be locked behind PL status and obtainable once PL has been achieved.

I am also sure we will see some nice cosmetics too locked behind Athena rank.

@jeremep If you are doing voyages with Legends, there is already a gold and athena reward. This is commendations, not new voyages.

This is how is should be, if the commedations are exclusive to PL that might give them a reason to crew up and give them something constructive to do for a while.

Sorry but I must disagree with this post. Equality is what is holding this game back. I hate the idea and now I hate the practice of horizontal progression. No matter how good you get or how much rep is received, it all just feels the same. For PL to actually mean anything vertical progression must be implemented. It's also this horizontal progression that has made players too self entitled. Play the game and get rewarded for it, become PL and get rewarded. In a similar thread I read about a player complaining about the fact that Athena's voyage was content locked. To that I say good, PL's deserve the voyage, and it's something i'm looking forward to unlocking. I hope devs abandon the idea of horizontal progression for voyages, make athenas voyages epic, make ships, weapons, and clothes, something to fear.

I actually hope that the counter starts after you become a PL. That is a much more impressive accomplishment. IMO.

I know a lot of pirates want it and can’t play with out them. But are commendations really considered content? Not opposed to them just feels like Athena 1-10. A reason to play past Pirate legend.
