Where are the Ashen Skeletons in the Devil's Roar?

  • Ahoy Mates!
I'd like start off by saying: The Devil's Roar is a great new addition to the sea.

But one thing I was looking forward to seeing was what the Skeletons were going to look like in the Devil's Roar.
However when Forsaken Shores launched the Skeletons looked like this:
    Gog

The Skeletons just ended up looking like the Standard ones in the other 3 seas, except they're tougher.

So I'd like to see em have Ash or those orange glowing magma spots on them.

Anyways mates, do you want the Skeletons in the Devil's Roar to look different from the regular ones?

Great idea! It’s better immersion like :)

  • @king-deka thanks mate, the Chests and Bounty Skulls already look different in the Devil's Roar, why can't the Skeletons?

  • @sgt-palooggoo I must say I was a tad disappointed that they didn’t. Truthfully it’s just a retexture but it would be fun to see.

  • @weststormborn Aye, but in sea of thieves cosmetic stuff is just as important as gameplay stuff.
However if they can't implement Different Skins for the Skellies no biggie I guess.

  • @sgt-palooggoo I have the same regards when it comes to such things too in SoT.

  • This would be cool to see. Also plays into the lore of the area.

  • It really amazes me with the lack of thought to such details. As mentioned it would only involve a simple texture change, but no, it's beyond their depth of creativity.
The captains of these Devil's Roar skeletons should be engulfed by flames and throw molten lava at us. Instead of just more skeletons with guns and swords.

Things like this are discussed by crews in their first encounter and Rare has 30+ years experience in the gaming industry with very little to no imagination.
    How is that even possible?

  • @admiral-rrrsole
It is kind of amazing yeah, they got to the Chests and Skulls being different.
    They just missed the Skeletons.

Mmm. I don't like how you're judging people without knowing them.

Well, yes, it's easy to discuss something. But if you think integrating something is so easy, you're completely wrong.

I'm pretty sure Rare wanted to include way more things in the update but you know, time is a big constraint. You've to prioritize important features, other could be put aside, changing things to fit player feedbacks, bug fixes or performance issues.

Sea of Thieves is still a game as a service where things are evolving constantly and I'm sure Devil's Roar can evolve too.

To me, when I look at their Art Book, I find that these people are full of imagination and work tirelessly in the creation of this Pirate Universe.

The proof is in the pudding. You don't need to personally know someone or a company to judge what they have delivered. The same threat of skeletons throughout your entire rep from day one to Athena's 10+, the same skeletons again from the peaceful Sanctuary to the Devil's Roar.

It doesn't take the whole company to change a simple texture to the skeleton unless that company is only one person.
Bugs and performance issues are handled by a totally different group of people from the graphics & texturing department.

Sea of Thieves is still a game as a service where things are evolving constantly and I'm sure Devil's Roar can evolve too.

Of course it can evolve, after suggestions made by the more creative public in threads such as this.

To me, when I look at their Art Book, I find that these people are full of imagination and work tirelessly in the creation of this Pirate Universe.

Concept art designers are great but it's only those few people and not the company as a whole who may be considered as being "full of imagination".
And that's only assuming if the concept artists are still on the payroll or (if ever) if it was outsourced.
They still need to bridge the gap or join the dots between concept art and development.

When you look at the automotive industry, do you buy on the company's reputation for great concept cars that will never be or on what they've actually produced to date?

Six months in and we've still got the same skeleton threats. When do you think any of that concept art will make it into the game?
    Tirelessly? Absolutely PMSL.

Why is the gaming industry forgiven, defended or made exempt from the same scrutiny as any other industry?
They're unimaginative, lazy in production and as slow as a wet weekend.
It's not a service to deliver content six or more months late, that should have already been in the "AAA game" at launch.
It's not a service to rollback and work on bugs that should have been tested and repaired before being pushed out to the public.
It's only a service to keep the servers maintained, up and running.
Just like the factory warranty on any new car, white goods, kitchen appliance, home entertainment, PC, etc.
