Can anybody confirm that feeding pigs before they are "hungry" resets or extends the timer? That is, if my pig is not crying and I feed him/her before leaving the ship, do I have 4 to 5 minutes before he/she gets hungry, or does it only reset if I feed him/her when crying? I heard it both ways when asking people in-game. Thanks!

Yes, seems to work fine. I do it all the time, feed them prior to jumping to fight skellys or GH. Also, make sure you have both the feed and pick up option on screen, if you have only the feed it won’t work. I’m assuming you know that already, but just in case.Also if your like myself and tend to play by yourself or with one other in the Sloop, I have found the best place for animals is in front of the voyage table. Tends to be the best for avoiding canon fire and from meg(I had them in front of map table when she bit the back of the sloop lol lesson learnt), the only thing that might still kill them is a barrel on the side of the ship.
@alaskagrown49 I can't say for fact but based on playing for the past six months it seems like feeding them even before they start crying resets/extends the timer.
