The Wilds?
The Wilds in SOT is a region of the map that consists of similar island topography and makeup. Looking into the topography and geographic makeup of islands, I feel like SoT is missing something crucial.
Creeping Jungle
The islands in SOT are lacking a few distinctive features that are common and uncommon in the Wilds.
- Nature
- Jungles
- Exploration Incentive
- Lore
Nature
The nature on the islands is very bland and repetitive featuring an overuse of the same assets to a blatantly noticeable extent. The reuse of these assets, lack of wildlife, and generic lost civilization feel to each island gets bland and annoying.
Jungles
When I think of the Wilds, I think of dense uninhabited jungle forests on massive islands never touched by man. All the islands in the game consist of the same features (Trail leads to the middle of the island, splits off, one to two caves, crashed ship somewhere, same foliage), it’s all the same.
Exploration Incentive
All of the islands in the game are clearly displayed on a big map, showing all of their features, and revealing all of their interesting features. For the most part, when I see an island on a map, I know what I’ll get when I get there.
Lore
Wait, there is lore? Oh you’re talking about the wall paintings... nice.
My suggested changes
I suggest that a whole new batch of islands are created and places into the world replacing other islands. These islands would be uninhabited, and densely forested, with massive trees, tall grass, and vines. The islands would be a whole different environment to explore from the normal islands we are used to. The islands would have little landmarks on the map, and most of everything on the map would be covered by dense forests. The chests would be harder to find, the snakes more annoying, and the skeletons hiding in tall grass and weed would be a horrific sight for any well headed man.
So what do you think mateys? Is the Wilds lacking? Does it need more content or a rework? Let me know in the comments!
