Allow alliances to lock so other crews can't join.

  • This is so dumb that this isn't an option. If it is an option, I'm dumb and please tell me how to do it.

I found two other ships were were ready to roll and we all put on the same sails and we were going to do the commendation. While were on wave 4, Another ship came up with some cruddy sails on and joined our alliance. We asked them to leave and put the sails or if they didn't have them to just wait for us to finish and we would do it again with them and they attacked us. We killed them easily and sunk them.

We had to leave out alliance and make a new one. As the boss boat was sinking, they pulled up again and joined just intime to get credit for the whole thing, ruin our commendation and we couldn't kick them out or leave and start a new one without them joining again so we basically killed and sunk them again and had to sell the stuff giving them a portion.

This is ridiculous. How stupid is it that some random can join in, do nothing and get all the money for it? Not to mention putting in a commendation that can be easily ruined? I only have a few more days to do this commendation and people can just grief their way to not letting other people get them? Dumb. Big D.

  • @Edemardil If you have the alliance you like you just put away the “offer alliance” pennant flag and put up any other flag (like the hunter one for instance) as long as nobody is flying the offer alliance flag nobody can joon, there problem solved ;-)

Wait, so once an alliance is formed, you just take the flag down and you won't leave and no one can join??

  • @edemardil to create / join an alliance at least one of the ships needs to have the “offer alliance” flag up, others then can use the “accept alliance” flag.

An alliance will be formed and everything is hunky dory, once you have all the ships in the alliance and you dont want any more, make sure none of the ships is flying the “offer alliance” flag

You're 100% sure about this? lol

  • @edemardil yes, i just did this to be sure to get the commendations, alot of ships wanting to ally up but our brigantine and sloop didnt have to fear the scrubs that werent flying the correct for the region.

No issues, just using the system as it was meant to be used

It’s not intuitive. Is that in the patch notes? Where are the patch notes?

  • @slipknotchic75 why wouldnt it be intuitive ? If a ship keeps flying the “offer alliance” flag what does it mean ?

It means that one ore more ships are offering a spot in said alliance.

If no ships are flying said flag, it intuitivly means no ships are offering a spot in that alliance.

If it wasn’t intuitive i wouldn’t have known to do said thing without reading it anywhere

And the patch notes are mentioned on twitter, reddit, these forums and i believe even the description of the dev update video. But that wouldn’t do anything for this info, the flag state what they do, read it in game

  • Just have all ships take down the “offer alliance” flag and no one else can join the alliance you formed

So far we haven’t had to offer since we’re either fighting straightaway or the offer is already up as we approach. So I hadn’t really thought about it until some randoms joined our alliance and screwed us out of a commendation as noted above. I guess some players are more intuitive than others but we hadn’t flown the banner ourselves yet to take it down.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I just did it and it makes you leave the alliance. Each region can only form one alliance.

  • @edemardil no it doesnt, just equip a different flag that is not one of three alliance flags which consist of “offer”, “accept” and “leave” especially the last one can be detrimental to your efforts ;-)

Just equip a checkered flag or one of the ather regular rectangular ones

  • That happened because one of your boats in the alliance or Your Boat, after becoming allied with the alliance, equipped the “offer alliance” flag, the bad boat you mentioned clearly had the “join alliance” flag equipped. Because you were in a perpetual state of offering an invitation to your alliance, whenever the bad boat came into range, with the “join alliance” flag up, they would automatically join the alliance, accepting the invitation.

There is an option to not allow boats into your alliance, you just don’t offer an invitation to everyone you come across.

  • The way I see it, to avoid anything like that from happening is to do these steps:

    1. Put up 'Offer Alliance' pennant flag.
    2. Crew you want to ally with puts up their 'Join Alliance' pennant flag.
    3. You're now in an alliance with said crew, but your 'Offer Alliance' pennant flag is still up (probably on top of your colored alliance pennant flag and probably still looking like the same triangular shaped white and red pennant flag).
    4. Go back into the flag customization and select any one of the normal flags in the first tab.
(DO NOT TOUCH THE PENNANT FLAG TAB UNLESS YOU WISH TO EITHER OFFER AN ALLIANCE WITH ANOTHER CREW OR LEAVE THE ALLIANCE YOU HAVE CREATED).
    5. Good job! You successfully created a closed alliance by switching your pennant flag to a normal rectangular looking flag. Fun fact: Pennant flags are always 'triangular'.

Anybody who tries to join your alliance by having their 'Join Alliance' pennant flag up, and near you, will have to depend on you having your 'Offer Alliance' pennant flag up at the same time. Follow those steps and do not leave it up. Good luck :E
