Brigantine Crow's Nest

  • From the artwork and images shown recently with the new trailer for Cursed Sails, it appears that the Crow's Nest for the brigantine will be on the shorter mast?? This renders the position only 50% effective because the larger mast behind will block the view from the nest. The Nest should always be at the highest point otherwise the position is not useful anymore. I am wondering if the images so far have a bug or artwork mistake because the Crow's Nest cannot logically function properly on the short of the two brigantine masts.

  • Ship logic is not really a thing with Rare.
Not only will the Crows Nest not be able to look behind your ship, the sails will also block the view from the wheel so you can't see where you are going, because the mast blocking the view wasn't enough.

  • Perhaps it was a way of balancing it against the sloop. As far as I can tell, when me and my buddy run a duo crew, there is no reason we will use the sloop anymore, as two people on the Brigantine seems perfectly manageable

  • You can still run along the sail beams (no idea what they nautical term is ) to get a better view. I tend to spend more time on them than I do in the nest anyways. It's a safer distance from my barrels lol.

  • @grif-0220 Yeah, I noticed this when they showed the first images of the Brigantine Silhouette when they announced the DLC's. The sail situation looks reversed from your typical Brigantine - which would have one squared sail at the rear and two up front. Of course, we don't have triangular sails which would also appear on a typical Brigantine, but still. I don't quite follow the reasoning behind this change in the layout of this type of ship.

  • From the looks of this image:
    Brigantine
It looks like the Brigantine will have a 310 degree viewing angle, not the regular 360 degree viewing angle of the other 2 ships.

  • Typically when my crew needs to use the crow's nest for a full 360-degree survey, we are stopped at an island with the sails up already. It looks like you'll still be able to see all the way around if the sails are up. Plus it won't take you half an hour to climb up there like it does on the galleon. XD

I'm curious to see what the below-deck layout looks like, though.

This is my general thought process. In the case the sails are down, hopefully enough people are on the boat to look where the nest blocks vision.

  • Also even if the sails are down it doesn't mean they will be facing straight forward all of the time.

  • One advantage is, a perusing ship will not see you grab that powder keg from the crows nest and drop down into the water as easy as other ships.

  • @baldrax Oh, good call.
