The Pirate Journal

  • Time and time again the devs at Rare have said this game is about creating stories, so why don't we have a journal of our experience? The entire Tales from Sea of Thieves book is pretty much this concept. This would add so much to the game.

    Imagine:

    1. This an item in game, not a menu. You can hold up it up like a map, flip to pages and show your friends.

    2. Customization: Its your book, your stories you can buy different skins for the book. Or find them from killing some pretty tough skellies.

    3. It would replace the random placement of the Rat Adventure menu slot (and anything in the future). I am talking about when you hit tab you see your rep, I really feel that the Rats panel shouldn't be there. So where do you put them? In the journal. It is an adventure, you need to keep track of it in a journal!

    4. What things would go in the journal? EVERYTHING! Distant sailed(i know you can view this in the achievement window), pirate kills, skeleton kills, pirates met, skull forts taken down, when you hit pirate legend it takes a screen shot of where you were at and puts it in the journal and you can show your friends. You could survey the islands. There could be a chapter of island and you can discover the landmarks and when you do they populate your Journal. The possibility are endless.

I would like to hear what you guys think and hope this idea gets traction.

Edit: Here is the link of @Pikaaroon similar idea:

  • @el-dth-taco Yes please. Would love for it to be an actual item that I can pull out.

  • I have seen similar concepts proposed in the forum a few times and I love the general idea. I think your version of the log is definitely on the right track. I like the idea of it being an actual item.

I think it would work best if you had 2 copies. One on your person as a selectable item, so you can take it out and make notes on the fly, and a copy of each of the crew mates journals in the captains room that can be read by all.
To make it more interesting upon being sunk your crews journals could float up and be collected like loot. which could then be read by the enemy crew. If a member of another crew wants to read your journal without killing you they can go read it in the captains room.

  • @xxbrytexx I like the idea of the journal being there after you die/boat sink.

  • @xxbrytexx Have you seen the one by @Pikaaroon?

  • probably, but I cant remember specifically off the top of my head. Ill go hit up the search bar

  • @xxbrytexx This one?

  • This is actually brilliant, a way for us to document our stories and a non-immersion-breaking way to display certain stats, I love this idea!

  • yep that's the one I was just reading. I had not seen that yet but that is exactly what i want. :)

  • @el-dth-taco I totally recall them saying off hand in a video once something like 'we want you to be able to take a picture of you and your crew and hang it in the captains cabin' so would be cool if one day they allow us to decorate the cabin with these kinds of momentos

  • I would love to see this added to the game. Would be so cool to pull out a journal and show my stats to my friends. It's actually an incredible idea.

  • @el-dth-taco

    Great minds think alike.

  • it would work, but to make it even better we could update our journals on this website (for us console users to keep up to date ) we could enter logs, notes or information we want to keep updated to keep the captains log book up to date, this is a cool idea and we could all read each others logs.

  • @commando-slippy
I had not thought of the possibility of having the option to update logs online. As an Xbox player myself I would accept having to use my controller to type a story but i would't look forward to it. If the logs could be updated online I think it would be cool to give each player the option to have their log view-able to the public. If players could also "subscribe" to another players log to follow their stories it would help players truly become legend. Pirates do love their tales

  • @pikaaroon Oh that is awesome. Yeah I was going to create a screenshot too. Glad you posted this.

  • posted this up as well, always felt as though we should have a journal. So as well as collectable pages of Captain Flameheart's Journal that could be held and viewed like the maps to unfold the lore and further voyages; we have our own journal were we record our own lore as well as stats and achievements. Always prefer it when achievements can be viewed in-game.
