Any potential of a passive mode being implemented?

  • I've been playing by myself on a sloop for the past couple days and every time I load into a lobby, I'm always sunken by the same group of ships in that server. This has been happening for DAYS now and I've jumped from server to server just trying to make money on my own and I physically can't because there's always a full galleon ready to destroy everything in sight. So I'm asking, is there any potential of a passive mode being implemented to fix this problem? Something where players who have absolutely zero interest in combat can play the game they want and just be peaceful pirates on the sea. Because with this problem happening so often, I honestly wanna quit because I just can't play.

  • @jaytheninjacat I'm so done with this game. I've only been playing for a couple weeks and every single time I try to do something solo I end up decimated either at sea or when I get back to port. This is not the way an online game should be played. There should be some kind of quest protection. At this point all I'm doing is wasting time so that other d****e bags can come along and steal my work.

What's more -- almost every time I match with others there is no direction, and everyone just ends up screwing around.

    This game is terrible.

  • No. None. 0. Zip. Ziltch. Nadda. Nein. Nope. Nyet.

  • Run with a friend. Run an open crew. Solo works for animal quests so long as you’re vigilant about your horizon.

  • You're playing solo, so you're playing hard mode...
No safe zone, no passiv mode, no PvE servers...live with that or quit the game

  • @haydnsym45 I would love to, but all of my friends are sucked into Destiny 2 and Rainbow Six Siege, so I basically can only ever play alone

  • It's been asked a hundred times before, and the answer has always been and will always be "no."

Sea of Thieves is a team game. Every mechanic in the game requires more than one person to do efficiently, from sailing the ship, to turning in loot, to Skeleton Raids. All of it is around team play. The Hungering Deep further reinforced that by making crews work together to complete a goal.

When you log in, it says flat out that solo mode is hard mode. You cannot level or gain gold efficiently as a solo player because the game is built against you, as it should be.

Stop playing solo, start looking for a crew. If you choose not to, that's your problem and I can't wait to steal all your loot.

  • Unfortunately as the community rightfully say every time...

Killing any risk PVP/other ship combat will kill the risk and excitement in this game, in turn, killing the game completely...

  • @jaytheninjacat Might I suggest the official SoT discord and /r/SeaOfThieves discord or xbox club? They all have LFG features that would be perfect for someone looking for friends to sail with.

I'm on PC and the /r/SeaOfThieves discord has been the best for me but I also use the official SoT discord frequently.

  • @jaytheninjacat @MikeDiedLOL I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad experience in this game. I agree with most of the comments here that a passive mode, pve servers, or anything like that would kill the excitement and danger of sailing the seas with treasure on board. However, it sounds like you are just having trouble finding a good crew.

But instead of just telling you to quit the game, I'll be the first to actually offer you a helping pirate hand. If you have microphones I'd be happy to sail the seas with you. I wont let our boat sink or get robbed (I'll try at least). If it happens... no big deal, cause we'll have fun doing it.

  • Yeah, some people wanna watch the world burn man, but have hope. Id sail with you or you can join us. Never sail solo in my opinion but it doesnt matter if its just yourself or you got a few buddies with, someones always gunna wanna mess with you. As far as I see it, i dont fire unless fired upon, that has drastically reduced my random attacks from players but doesnt work 100%.

Feel free to add me on xbox, I play PC, but me and my buddy would like a 3rd member.

  • @jaytheninjacat Tips:
1° Learn to shoot without aiming for you to be able to jump around and mess with a full galleon by yourself (DO NOT USE THE AIM BUTTON) using a SNIPER.

2° Learn to "ghost sail" your ship, practice boarding other ships after checking your map and learning to let your ship sail away alone without crashing. Use this tip to drop and sell loot at outposts whyle the enemy thinks you're still on your ship.

3° Consider joining a crew (add me if you want) and always have a mic.

4° Learn the hot spots against galleons (shipwreck bay(Q12), crooked masts (T13), discovery ridge (I24), etc.) where you can easily make them crash with the sea floor or rocks using your size and weight to your advantage.

5° Learn to adjust sails to catch the wind.

6° Drop loot at known islands whyle you're being chased, so that if you sink you know where to recover it.

    AAAAAAARG!

  • lol ......... lol

  • @jaytheninjacat Yeah man you just need to join a crew. Because honestly the way the loot system is, you would be more likely to get your loot taken in a passive mode. Two pirates board you, one holds your anchor down, the other one takes your loot. Or imagine pirates go into passive mode and board you and just take your loot, you couldn’t do anything. The system you’re suggesting wouldn’t work and would be chaos. The whole concept of this game is to steal, plunder loot and kill enemy pirates. It’s in the name Sea of THIEVES.

  • Next thing you'll ask for is Perfect Dark without the enemies so you can just watch the story. C'mon man...

Also, I can solo successfully, as can many others. Don't blame the game if you're the problem. Put in your time, and get good, just like everybody else. I suggest learning how to fight, treasure's not yours if you can't keep it.

Could not have said it better myself! We've heard it a million times. It is called Sea of Thieves for a reason. It's the risk that makes the game all that much better for me!

  • Coming from a main Solo Slooper, I don't see this issue as much as I see it posted on here.

There are a number of ways to avoid this if it does though:

    • Situational Awareness - If you see a ship, watch them. If they come towards you angle your boat with cannons towards them for the first strike

    • Fight Back - Couple of times I had PvPers come for me I ran some and bored them to death but then some I fought back. You get hit on their ship, kill one (even if you die) but never back down and come for them they'll stop eventually. There is no reward for PvP if you have no loot so at some point they will stop.
