Blunderbuss predictable shot patterning?

  • So the blunderbuss nerf has alot of competitive players up in arms literally, and for myself and my friends i play with. The problem i encountered was not the damage it did but the unpredictable shot pattern it produced (sometimes all the pellets grouped together at an unrealistic range for a kill). A simple fix for a random pattern gun possibly having too much range and being used outside its intended purpose is to add a set pattern that expands at a given interval (think "cone" of fire). Just my opinion.

  • Also the nerf makes murdering a 4 man crew as a 2 man even harder because you have to chase these idiots all over the place and hit then 5+ times to kill them.

  • My problem with the blunderbuss is the undpredictable nature of the shot. I'm fine with it being able to one shot you from point blank range as it should it's a shotgun. I found a random guy on a server and gave him some loot to let me experiment on him for a few minutes. I stood a few meters away and fired blunderbuss directly at him. No kill. So I moved a little closer (having him heal all the way after every shot) no kill. Got as close as I could and aimed right at his face. No kill. I had speculated to this insane randomness in PvP before but I actually got to test it out in a more controled environment. This makes it very frustrating when you are dealing with a set of players along your skill level and this flip of a coin is what determins wether or not I get the kill.(which a lot of times means the difference between sink or float with all your treasure on board). I am a competitive player and like to win off my own merit and not luck. It really aggravates me that I can't even rely on a point blank shot to the face to do the job. If this continues I will likely move away from the sea of theives community even though I thoroughly enjoy the game this is a borderline deal breaker for me.

  • But the BB pellets actually obey a pattern when they are shot: https://imgur.com/a/c61yV

Three shots from left to right: Aimed down sights - Hipfire from the same distance - Hipfire a pace closer to the wall.

  • Yeah...because using the pistol is unthinkable.

  • @seanasy50 Good, that's the point. 2 people should not be able to easily destroy a team of four by just spamming an overpowered weapon. If they're jumping around as mindlessly as you seem to imply then careful timing with any other weapon should still win out.

  • "competitive players".........
