Introduction of fleets to the game thoughts?

  • I really think the idea off being able to make a friendly raid groups/fleets to the game would be a very interesting idea.

I am not talking about 4 galleons teaming up but give it a limit of 8-10 players with boat amount restrictions i.e. 2 Galleons or 1 Galleon with 2 sloops or 4 Sloops. I will adjust when the new boat comes out.

I also think there should be a specific place to allow this to happen. Maybe add an island with and NPC to sign a "treaty" that last a certain amount of time of your choice where you can't kill each other for 1 hour increments say 1-6 hour periods.

This way you still keep the pirate life of if its an hour treaty and you team up for a fort will be betrayed after the hour is done?

Because you are in essentially a raid group I don't think you should get as much gold for items either (more people so more shares needed to go round of course).

So the reductions would be: 6 man group 10%, 7 man 15%, 8 man 20%, 9 man 25% and 10 man 30%. This way you might have an easier life acquiring loot but its not a way to power level up fast.

I would probably add this on to reputation levels as well but I'm a little unsure on the percentages here. As your "fleet" could become famous or feared so in turn adding to your pirate story.

Now if you party with with some horrible people and what to leave I would say the way out would be to sail back to the specific island and break the treaty BUT the would be a visible debuff that for the next 30 mins any loot sold in that time would mean anything you sell is still spread around the whole fleet so if that a boat or yourself runs off with the loot you have to elude them for 30 mins before the raid doesn't get any reward.

I think this would work two fold as if you decide you have had enough and want to leave early everyone still benefits but you can go your separate ways and still get something out of it but 30 mins is enough time to find them and you know where they are when the treaty is broken so its a place to start from.

Well there is my essay, what do you think guys?

  • I like it. I was thinking a very similar idea

  • @stinkymonkey5 thanks bud

I like your idea, I am just adding to it from a post I made a while back. Hope they give is the ability to have a small fleet. May need to allow us a team of 6 max for this to work.

    Ships to Start With

    Sloop - 1-2 man, 1 mast, 2 gun, 1 port 1 starboard
    Brig – 2-3 man, 2 mast, 4 gun, 2 port 2 starboard
    Galleon – 3-4 man, 3 mast, 8 gun, 4 port 4 starboard

NPC Ships in game that can be Commandeered/plundered by players
NPC’s can use the same ships we start with as well, but these ships are unique to NPC characters

    Cargo Fluyt – 2-3 man, 2 mast, 4 gun, 2 port 2 starboard
    Merchantman – 3-4 man, 3 mast, 6 gun, 3 port 3 starboard
    Frigate – 3-4 man, 3 mast, 10 gun, 4 port 4 starboard, 1 forward 1 aft
    Man O War – 4 man, 3 mast, 14 gun, 6 port 6 starboard 1 forward 1 aft

Rules to this are, you can capture the ship, you can loot it and then scuttle it or put a prize crew on it and either take it to sell or if you can crew it with the minimum crew, you can add it to your fleet. You will be able to do whatever you want with this ship as long as it does not get sunk or your whole crew does not die, or you log off. So you can decorate it with all of the items you have as if the ship was your own but once you lose it, it is gone and you will need to capture another one. If you decide to keep it and make it part of your fleet, battle damage will reduce its value when you try to sell it to a shipwright.

This will pacify those that want a fleet function and will give people who love ship combat a reason to do it outside of just PvP. If you cannot put a prize crew on the ship then all you can do is plunder and scuttle it. This will add an element of surprise and uncertainty, is your opponent a person or AI? Frigates and Man O War are combat vessels so they will be manned by military most likely so they will be the most difficult to capture.

I know Rare seems to be against this, but it may be a necessary compromise to liven the game up and meet the needs of some of the gamers.

yea this sounds good to me I really like the idea of taking over the ships. Maybe we could add selling the ship to a merchant at outposts? A trick in real life as pirating became harder was to claim the ship was "abandoned" so the law stated it was up for grabs to sell and so maybe the same thing could happen here as you "salvaged" the ship as it were.

  • @ichisupai with 6 ships per server its going to be a small fleet :( 2018 youd really think they could of had a few more in the world....

  • @pantang Baby steps bud it's about 20 per server with players? maybe they could up it to 40 and the we could have 2 fleets battle it out
