The Puckle Gun

  • Hey, you! Yes, you! Want a more powerful gun than the sniper or Blunderbuss, great accuracy, stupendous firing rate, and lighter than a cannon? Look no further than the Repeating gun known as the Puckle Gun!

Now you might be thinking to yourself "Bro, this was not made in the Pirate era" well sorry to bust your bubble but this was pantented in 1718 for defence of castles, as well as them being used to fight the Ottoman pirates in north Africa. This gun was the FASTEST gun that fired back then, You fire the chamber, which you must revolve it, which in turn makes the hammer crank back and ready to fire already! Once all 9 are fired though, it would take as much time it would to reload a cannon to reload all 9 revolving chambers.

Now you must be thinking... "Why would i use this when we have many other good guns?" Well I am glad you asked! You see, this gun shoots farther, more accurate, and faster reloading than any gun in the game! And with it being able to move easily you can take out a ship if you have the high ground, or use 4 of these bad boys to dominate a fort.

How ever this does have it's flaws. Once you get a puckle gun from your Armory, it is to be carried around like a chest, and then mounted anywhere. When moving it, you can see it can be put on the front or back of the ship, or on a fort to dominate it. How ever... when moving it around like a chest, you are slower when you are carrying it. But other then that it can be VERY effective when you deploy it to Naval use. Plus it's high use in bullets... let's just say we break up one cannonball into 9 cannonballs that load into the chambers.

And hey, what else could be a reason against it? It was from 1718, used in naval combat, higher firing power, faster reloading, more accurate, and can be moved as easy as a chest.

So guys, would you want this to be on your ship?

  • Very cool gun indeed. What was the caliber of this weapon just out of curiosity?

  • @bloodfrenzy187 "The barrel was 3 feet (0.91 m) long with a bore of 1.25 inches (32 mm). The cylinder held 6 to 11 shots depending on configuration, and was hand-loaded with powder and shot while detached from the weapon"

So... that would be a VERY powerful shot.

  • @cheatingpirate Very interesting. A 32mm shell would pack a punch for sure. The only drawback I can see to this being a naval weapon of course is the oceans salt content. I'm sure corrosion would be a constant issue at sea.

  • @bloodfrenzy187 Well good thing this is a video game... how ever i think these guns should be able to be knocked back if shot at with a cannon.

  • @cheatingpirate I was thinking maybe there is a small chance of misfire due to being more intricate and having more moving parts than the average flintlock or cannon. But i do agree it would be an awesome period weapon to see in the game no matter how it was worked out in the end.

  • The video itself even states that the dude only made like, a handful of them for only 1 buyer...
while i think it would be awesome to have small caliber fixed guns, maybe on the rails near the helm, to try and kill enemies on your ship or other close ships, I don't think a repeating gun would be very fair =p

  • @cheatingpirate
Have a look at the pepper-box and collier pistol instead.
Only two puckle guns were ever made as they more of an experimental step in the right direction, but completely impractical. They fired faster than a cannon but weren't really rapid fire, you just didn't have to reload after every shot. The rate is rather slow as the cylinder must be unscrewed, then rotated, screwed tight to the barrel again, cocked, fired, repeat.

  • @noob-smoke95 Yeahhhh those are pretty interesting weapons of their own. But in my opinion I would like to see a gun similar to the puckle gun, as a large moveable tripod gun with 9 rounds. And yeah i know the revolving process. But it's quicker than other flintlock firearms and cannons. It would be more fun with ship fights if we had one of those in the crows nest.
