It would be nice to be able to have the option to host our own dedicated servers for the game where we can make and enforce our own rules. This could also help alleviate many of the connection issues players are having in the official servers. It is also an alternative for players who are getting tired of being greifed. Having someone sink your ship at the dock at an outpost when you're just dropping off a chicken is just plain rude.
Dedicated Servers
@ikrymsin on alot of games dedicated servers are a good option, but not in this one because that would make it very easy for serverowners to keep doing skelly forts without being bothered.. Also the pvp is just something supposed to be in the game since its a pirate game in my opinion. So if you want to avoid this.. Scout the island before docking!
@ikrymsin I highly doubt this will happen, but if it does, there should be some important things to consider:
The outcome of voyages (and treasures in general) must be lower, as risk vs. reward is an important part of the game. By using your own server, you have more control about those risks.Also how do you define a dedicated server? Do you mean just a closed lobby or really hosting the server locally on your PC? The letter one will not happen at all for a Online-Game.
Closed lobbies are a thing in other games (like GTA), which sometimes also limits the available activities in those lobbies.

It's a pirate game, pirates are known for their cruelties and killings, how do you expect to have a pirate game which excludes fights? Don't get me wrong but if thats what you are expecting you might awell go play ship simulator instead.
