I'd like to see the option to fly a specific color flag that displays what your intention is to another ship - attack, friendly, etc. I know that people could use this as a ruse, but I think it would add something to the game.

Like I had said in another thread, learning Morse Code and use it with the lantern if your extreme enough! I happen to know it from my choice of career.

I do the exact same, only worked this evening for the first time.
We need true nautical flags so we can communicate with other pirates.

Seems more and more people are using flashing lanterns,seems to be a thing. Sailed past a few ships tonight and maybe it was the same guy all 4 times but he had all lanterns on like a X-Mas tree and as we sailed by we flashed our light a few times. All went well,fella kept sailing and so did we. As you said,it can be used as a ruse but better than nothing. signal flags I think would be great though for when you are low on bananas or grog or just want to Parle and maybe make a friend or strike some deal.
