Ahoy,
In the second of my series of suggestions for the game's future (cause why not? ;) ) I present an idea thats being kicked around by many. The idea of a northern archipelago unique from the others that taps into the traditions of cold water piracy. (Not quite the term for it but such is life. )
Such an idea honestly is exciting as hell. This region would be easy to make unique and with a few added touches legendary! The potential features are numerous but here's a few.

Iceberg! Dead Ahead!: Now to start off with icebergs would be a must-have. While I've seen some speculate they could be hit and release water I have a different idea. Rather then make them like the giant spurs of rock you can find in the wilds instead make them free floating. Likes ships they're carried by the currents and are rammable. Making them different shapes and sizes would make keeping a weather eye out all the more key while sailing from island to island.

The Cold: When you stay underwater to long you drown. When you blow up a gunpowder barrel with your sword you and the four skeletons attacking you die. Why not make the cold in this part of the world like that? Pirates who wear less will have to bundle up and stay out of the wind while the longer you stay outside without finding shelter or using a lantern the more you freeze. (perhaps literally?) Either way it'd be a fun mechanic to add further separating it from our existing regions.

Island Culture: On every island we visit in Sea of Thieves there's a sense of story. Why did this man eat so many bananas? Why does this cave have a painting of tentacles? Why did I find a weeping chest just casually sitting in the open by a campfire? This new region would be no different but I'd argue both it's architecture and implied stories should be unique. Be it with Vikings style longhouses, more English influenced architecture (come on Rare you know you want to do it ;) ) or frozen skeletons scattered across an island engaged in battle that may or may not spring to life at any time. There's plenty of seafaring countries among the ice that could make these islands epic.

Ice Sheets: Another fun feature that could work in tandem with the icebergs and islands vast expanse of frozen sea with only certain parts navigatable. Think the Northwest Passage. Hell, this ice could even breakable though it'd be at the cost of yours ships structural integrity.

Maelstrom: Storms are already bad enough in Sea of Thieves especially if the guy you were relying on to bail your treasure-laden sloop has a random crash without you noticing. Why not up the ante? Combine the wind and rain of the storms with freezing temperatures and icebergs who gets swept up just as easy as ships! It'd certainly make for an insane naval chase.

Flora and Fauna: New creatures! Be it Leviathans, whales, polar bears or sea serpents there's an opportunity here to throw in another feature you can't find elsewhere in the world!

New Faction Whalers: To be clear whaling is and was bad. That being said so is real piracy! In Sea of Thieves fearsome sharks prowl the waters, a mighty Kraken lurks in the depths maybe even whales and sea serpents (hint hint) also roam the waters. It'd make sense then to have a band of grizzled slightly crazy Captain Ahab esque whalers who will give you money to hunt down sharks, the Kraken and the like!
The North prims with as much possibility as the south and I'd love to see Sea of Thieves put it's own unique spin on this region! If you have your own thoughts or ideas share em down below!
